The claim that the commujist party is very popular and what the Russians *really* want is communisim is absurd.
Opposition candidates who are a threat usually get disqualified for political reasons which is how communists pick up seats.

That's not to say no one votes communist, I am saying people vote out of desperstion or because their candidate got disqualified and they vote just to get Putin out.
