Long long ago in Kashmir ruled King Jalauka with his Queen Vakpushta. They had a son named Tunjina & whole Kashmir was rejoicing under their reign. They constructed Tungeshwar temple and set a city named Katika. The trees bore fruits the moment they were planted& Kashmir shined👇
The incarnation of Dvaipayana, Sage Chandak lived at that period. Once to test their patience& character, Nature played it's horrified role. It was the time of Bhadrapad, when autumn rice was ready in the fields, huge snowfall possessed the grown rice&all fields were drowned👇
The Sun disappeared from the sky & dark sadness possesed the minds of the subjects. People were striving for food, death was everywhere. A big famine hit Kashmir. Morals and values of love and affection for child, wife and parents went away from the kingdom. A calamity began 👇
There was theft everywhere, people lost all sorts of modesty and standard, turning themselves into hungry monsters, leaving their dear ones for self nourishment in the lap of death. People wandered in all directions for search of food. This awful fear and terror grew its peak👇
But King Jalauka helped his subjects with all available means. He opened his treasures, collected money from the ministers and along with his wife he went to people dwelling in jungles, crematoriums on roads and provided them food. The situation was miserable,no end of pain 👇
One day, the treasure also came to an end. King Jalauka was in great sorrow and depressed about the situation. At night he spoke to his Beloved Queen Vakpushta, He said"Help me, The people here on Earth are dying, the kingdom once glorious upto heaven, now there's dance of death👇
"The mountains are blocked, the sun has disappeared, the snowfall is not stopping, People are in search of food and I am helpless. Great are the Kings who slept happily by seeing smiling faces of their subject as their own children. Oh Queen I can't live anymore, looking them 👇
Looking them in Distress in such perils. He Cried a lot on his bed. The Queen saw him came and spoke to give him confidence by her compassionate words. She said"Oh King! Don't worry about the wrong deeds, the sins of yours and the subjects that this calamity has strikes upon us👇
Oh King! If you consider yourself as A King then don't get depressed, If you are a King then you must fight this famine with confidence and resolve the problems of subjects otherwise what is the use of this Greatness? if you didn't do your duty of resolving the problems. 👇
Remember that Righteous Kings are not even harmed by Indra, Brahma and Yama. So stand up oh King again to serve your subjects as it's your duty. As my duty is to stand by you..Believe my words as they are never proven false. This starvation will end. Please don't be depressed👇
The next day many pigeons with no life felt from the sky to the ground. The search of food came to an end. The snowfall stopped, the sun shined again blessed everyone with its rays. It was some other stuff which the saintly Queen Vakpushta created for the starving people.
👇
She pacified the fire of hunger, she was generous, and free from all sins. She helped King Jalauka in gaining his confidence and to be patient. After this calamity she founded to Agraharas named Katimusha and Ramusha which are present-day Kaimuh and Ramuh near Srinagar &Supiyan👇
Thus this Righteousness, Generosity saved Kashmir from the great Calamity. She was nonviolent&pious& for saving people she can't do any harm. After ruling 36 years King Jalauka passed away, The place where Great Queen Vakpushta breathed her last is the place of Vakpushtatavi.
Do read this long thread. Stories from Kashmir are fascinating, enchanting and with full of morals

Interesting part of this story- Now The Pigeons which were fallen from the sky were not pigeons but It was some other stuff. Great Kavi Kalhana has mentioned this in a beautiful shloka no. 53- She was pious by nature and nowhere she can harm other living beings for the purpose 👇
for the purpose of providing food to the starving subjects. This refers that these were not pigeons. Queen Vakpushta was very great and generous. Her nature of love for the living beings made something to happen which came as remedy for the calamity. @VedicWisdom1 @patangaha ji
