If for whatever reason you find yourself in Memphis 10, I'm going to give you a proper thread of places YOU should eat. These are all MEMPHIS restaurants, no chain corporations. Why would you want what you already have back home? Let's get started....
BREAKFAST: The Pancake Shop. However you can imagine a pancake, they can make it. Usually a 15-20 min wait but worth it. Bryant's Breakfast. Definitely that's southern hospitality feel. Only open til 1pm so get there early. The Arcade. Been here a 100 years. Great breakfast.
BBQ: A&R has several locations. Definitely the best to ME. Especially their BBQ Spaghetti. Always packed. Pollard's BBQ is sweet sauced. Good taste and BIG sandwiches. Payne's BBQ is old school. Family recipe slaw makes you do the chef's kiss. Interstate BBQ? Get the ribs.
Tops is probably the most well known BBQ spot in the city. They have their own sauce that people either hate or love. Aint no in between. I suggest getting sauce on the side. You can also ask for all white meat too. The burgers though? That's what most people will tell you about.
Now if we're specifically talking about ribs? Cozy Corner and One & Only got you covered. I suggest getting either DRY. Both of them are seasoned so well and are so tender you don't NEED sauce. I also suggest you try the baked beans at One & Only.
Marlowe's Ribs. Imagine the atmosphere of Cheers mixed with the Soul Train Line. While the food may be good, it's the Hole In The Wall ambiance that gets you. It's a tourist spot by day because of Elvis but it's LIT at night. It was featured in Drake's video.
Seafood: Dee O's is relatively new but keeps a line for pickup. They have a FULL menu and are priced well. Soul Fish has a couple of locations around the city. Nice portions and also priced well. Fish may be their specialty but the grill-smoked-flash fried wings are IMMACULATE.
Now if you just wanna specifically talk about catfish? Millbranch Fish Market is a 1 stop shop. You can buy everything you need to cook at home OR They will cook it for you. Kimble Fish Co. & Hollywood Fish BOTH will get you right. Especially if you want fish & spaghetti plate.
Fried Chicken: Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken is gonna have a line no matter what time you get there. It's hot/spicy, there is no mild. Dodge's Store is the best Gas Station chicken you'll ever eat. Get a side of JoJos. TRUST ME. Uncle Lou's got a down home taste you'll love.
Now Jack Pirtle's???? Let me tell you.... I don't know what kind of confectionary crack they sprinkle in the flour before the chicken is breaded but it's necessary for you to GATHER YOUR LIFE. BUT THE GRAVY? You dip EVERYTHING in the gravy. Especially the fries. IV me please. 🤣
Wings: Yes, this is a whole different category. You won't go wrong with All Star, Mister P's, Chings or Crumpy's. I personally like All Star the best. Crumpy's has been around the longest. Mister P's has $.60 specials. Chings only has one location so call it in.
Burgers: Lot-A-Burger is hood spot. Greasy but the GOOD GREASY. Get the combo with a milkshake. Dyer's has a special grease they dip the meat in before cooking it. The burger pictured? That's a ultimate burger from Uncle Lou's from the earlier fried chicken post.
Coney Island is like going to the Mid South Fair but not riding any rides.....you just went to eat. That's the feeling you get ordering food at Coney Island. It even kinda looks like the corn dog and turkey leg stands at the fair! 🤣🤣🤣
DIXIE. MFKN. QUEEN. Yes the line gon be wrapped around the building. Yes the building is an old Taco Bell. Or Checkers. Or Baskin Robbins. But you don't care about any of that. All you care about is them passing you a greasy ass bag with you double cheese combo in it. That's it.
Pizza: If you want a thick crust, flavorful pizza? Choose Exlines. (They have great salads too) You want thin crust made to order your way like a Subway sandwich? Choose Pyro's. You want a pizza unlike any other? Gotta get Broadway. The Meat Master has EVERY MEAT AVAILABLE.
Fine Dining: These 3 establishments have that low light ambiance. Smooth jazz plays in the background & the smell of delicacy is in the air. The Butcher Shop is pricey but worth it. Houston's has a patio with a Koi pond that is great for entertaining. Buckley's is cozy/romantic.
Folk's Folly is a Prime steak house. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Yes. The aged steaks are so good that they offer Humphrey's meat market where you can purchase them OR use their
refrigerated shipping services to overnight your order.
Hot Plates: You're either going to Chow Time or Gary's Market. Chow Time is a buffet BUT they sell to go plates. They offer Chinese and soul food. Gary's is STRAIGHT SOUL FOOD. (3rd pic) Either way you'll have a SEVERE CASE OF THE ITIS afterwards.
Mexican: We have several spots but if you want good food at decent price and damn near gallon sized margaritas??? Well either of the Happy Mexican locations will suffice your every need.
Desserts: Jerry's Sno Cones. You see that line? That's everyday. Imagine a cup of soft serve ice cream with a sno cone in the middle. I know you want one. Gibson's Donuts are the BEST DONUTS IN THE WORLD. Bacon donuts? Yep. Red velvet? Yep. Maple caramel? Yep. You need it. Now.
Cupcake Cutie is a cupcake boutique bar. You pick the flavor, pick your icing and whatever toppings you like: sprinkles, chocolate chips, nuts, gummy bears etc. Its built right before your eyes. I get an order EVERY WEEKEND. YES I'M FAT. 🤣🤣🤣
Food Trucks: Flying Sobies. Order a SEASONED CORNISH HEN with beans and slaw. Make sure you ain't got nothing else planned afterwards cause you gon need a nap. Bossman Wings & BBQ (not pictured) is STRAIGHT FIRE. Especially if you catch him parked outside the club late night.
There are still more spots I need to hip yall to but I have a few errands to run and I'll do a second food thread in a week or two. Feel free to ask any questions or just Google these spots.
@PrettyDonB___ it's right there! 🤣 I didn't have a pic for it.

Can you swim? Cause here in Memphis, we SLICE THE POOL. I cannot tell you how this originated, but NO POOL IS SAFE FROM BEING SLICED. Welcome to the SLICE THREAD.
It's only right to start with the Gold Medalist OG Slicer,
Jonquall Ladeadrick Carrothers
See, there is a method to the madness. You don't just jump in the pool....no. You TRAIN for this. Here is JLC's guide to Slicin:
JLC retired from slicing in 2017 but he left a LIVE ACTION slice tutorial for everyone to follow:
Memphis Jukin (or Jookin if you prefer) is constantly evolving...
Breaking and Popping from New York and Cali birthed SOME of the elements of Memphis Jukin, but the REAL HISTORIANS of Memphis know that it's a mix of those elements and the OG GANGSTA WALK started by The Bovans at Club No Name off of Triggerman in 1987.
Please understand that Ray the Jay was the Emcee and DJ Spanish Fly were at Club No Name/Expo and EVERYONE came through. LL Cool J, The D.O.C and even Hammer learned to GANGSTA WALK by coming to Memphis.
Until you can show me REPEATED events where women have consistently attacked, harassed and even killed men for being rejected, it has been and forever will be: MEN HANDLE REJECTION WORSE.
A lot of men have entitlement issues. They honestly believe that a woman should be attracted to them JUST BECAUSE HE APPROACHED HER. If that ain't the dumbest thought process. If you were to ask these men "Why should I be attracted to you?" they would be ready to fight.
That's all they know... Entitlement and anger. If you can't sensibly explain how you feel and why you feel that way about someone, why should they be interested in you? And even then, THEY STILL DON'T HAVE TO LIKE YOU. Just take your L, move on & find someone that does like you.
