Excited to be following the #UKPlantSciPresents PlantSci Journal Special today.
First up, Nathan Masters from @FrontPlantSci touting their #OpenAccess platform and Plan S compliance. FiPS is the largest publishers of #plantscience in the world! Focus on validity of results, not perceived impact. Their community-led editorial board is led by @YundeZhao.
@FrontPlantSci highlights current research with Research Topics and they are looking for areas to highlight. frontiersin.org/journals/plant…
Next up, Sarah Lennon from the New Phytologist Foundation, publishers of @NewPhyt and @plantspplplanet and New Phytologist workshops and symposia. Check out their symposia for next-generation scientists! newphytologist.org/nextgenevents
Speaking of supporting early career researchers, nominations for the @NewPhyt Tansley medal are open NOW-- deadline is January 29th, so get those nominations in! newphytologist.org/grants/tansley…
Next up, @mikeTpage from @JXBot which is owned by @SEBiology. Mike explains exciting new changes at the journal, including expanded, diverse editorial board, Plan S compliance, and new paper types: accepting methods and community resource papers!
@JXBot has flexible formatting requirements-- simple things like line numbers...and you know where to go if the language needs help, right? @PlantEditors
Coming soon, a @JXBot webinar series and videos promoting your paper! Also keep an eye out for special issues associated with financial support for meetings! academic.oup.com/jxb
Now @PlantTeaching giving us an intro to the @ASPB journals @ThePlantCell, @PlantPhys, and @PlantDirectJ. Plant journals give more plant readers! Check out ASPB workshops, webinars, etc. on @plantae_org and don't forget to join ASPB! aspb.org/membership/
One of the awesome benefits-- Teaching Tools in Plant Biology. Superb resource for teachers, students, and generally interested people! community.plantae.org/organization/t…
The @ASPB supports early career scientists with the Associate Features Editors program, recognition of first authors, representation on committees. Follow @ASPB_ECPS for more!
Next up, Chris Surridge from @NaturePlants being modest about being the newest, smallest journal! Our clients at @PlantEditors do love publishing in this li'l journal!
@NaturePlants has a small group of professional editors with tons of plant biology experience and publishes great plant biology with a broad focus. New in 2021, they have moved toward open access with "transformative agreements"-- great news for those of us outside academia!
Now, Q&A! First Q is about #OpenAccess and costs. Authors bear the costs, not the readers-- publishing preprints on @biorxiv_plants is a good option for getting your paper out. Get @ASPB and @SEBiology member discounts! If you can't pay, ask for discounts.
Next Q: preprints. All journals love preprints! @PlantTeaching recommends preprints especially for early career researchers-- and check what your PI's policy is on preprints before you join their lab!
Now @PlantTeaching is clarifying how papers move between journals.
All journals have options to transfer manuscripts, including @NaturePlants --> other Springer/Nature journals, @JXBot --> @PlantDirectJ, @FrontPlantSci --> other Frontiers journals. This is great news for authors, as it can speed final publication of your paper!
Ending with two points: support your professional societies and don't be afraid to contact journal editors! Thanks to all the presenters for their insight!
