Really enjoyed the @creatorlabfm podcast with @ShaanVP and @bzaidi

Here are some of my favourite takeaways 👇
On working at a startup vs. a big company: there are pros and cons to each.

In big companies, you work less, get paid a lot, don't fear death everyday, and that's nice.

In a broader sense, life is what you make of it. You can enjoy life at a big company or a startup.
Startups are like infants. You shouldn’t be distracted.

Bigger companies allow you more freedom.
Big companies encourage you to have more balance in your life. You can focus on things like family and getting fit.

They also have to overpay and provide all kinds of perks because the work is less fulfilling.
When Shaan started at Twitch, he made it a goal to have the talented people on the exec team respect him. Your network is valuable over time.
If you want to work with someone, show your value first. Just start sending them stuff.

Be humble and honest, and make it easy for the other person.
When interacting with other people, think of yourself as an Amazon product page.

• What do other people want? (what are they searching for)
• What are you offering? (what they want)
• How can you show that to them? (images)
• How can you get them to trust you? (reviews)
You wouldn't build a company without a vision, so why do we build lives without a vision?

What is my vision for my life and my strategy to achieve that? Is it the right one?
A decision without emotion is a weak decision.

You can use emotion to lock in a decision and commit to a path.
Emotion is also a tool that can help with decision-making.

How would I feel if I chose this path? What about the other one?

Considering your emotional state when making a decision is also important.
"If you're in your head, you're dead."—Tony Robbins

If you're living in your head, over-analyzing, you're using logic too much and not using your whole self.
If you're thinking about starting a business, look for blueprints. Look for tried and true models, and then put your own twist on it.
The ABZ framework: you need to know where you are (A), what your next step is (B), and where you're going long-term (Z).

That's it.
Working like a lion: rest, recover, and then sprint like crazy when you know what to work on and have the energy.

Just like a lion hunting.
If you don't believe in something fully, it's not going to work.

The opposite is true too: if you believe in something, you'll take massive action, see signals of things working, which will reinforce your belief, in a positive feedback loop.
To get unstuck: change the way you feel. You need to be relaxed and feeling good first.

Then, seek the truth of the situation, and figure out the next action.
Err on the side of doing what kids do.
A question other people should ask themselves: who do I want to become, or who am I becoming?

Listened to a wonderful conversation between @jackbutcher @david_perell @anafabrega11 @will_mannon @rebecca_olason on becoming a creator and building a personal monopoly.

Here are 30+ takeaways 👇
The three parts to build a personal monopoly:
• Curiosity: what do you care about?
• Competence: what are you good at?
• Character: who are you?
Often curiosity manifests in combining multiple interests or fields (and competence in those fields).

The @farnamstreet podcast between @m2jr and @ShaneAParrish was full of lessons on leadership, mental models for startups, and building great teams.

Here are 50+ takeaways 👇
Side note: @m2jr is one of the most well-spoken podcast guests I've ever heard.
A company has products, a supply change, resources and processes and values and capabilities that give them a market position.

A startup has none of these.

There are no shortcuts to success.

Only those that provide two things: value & consistency.

Today's atomic essay 👇 (thread below) Image
One of my favourite questions: Are you playing the long game? Or the short game?

(h/t @farnamstreet)
Hacks and shortcuts don’t win long-term.

The only way to succeed long-term is to provide two things: value and consistency.

All would-be creators wonder: "What am I an expert in? What can I teach?"

And most of us think: "Nothing."

We know much more than we think.

(thread below)👇
The first question would-be creators ask: “What am I an expert in? What can I teach?”

Imposter syndrome says: “Nothing. You aren’t an expert. There’s still so much you don’t know. You can’t teach.”
The more we learn about a subject, the less certain we become.
