Except for personal family loss of Peshwa family and Shinde (Sindhia) family, Marathas did not lose much on Panipat. It was a shock not because number of deaths etc but number of first-line leadership deaths of these two families (and their retinue and bureaucracy)
Before Panipat, Sutlaj was de facto border. Within 2 months of Panipat, Abdali gave back all original maratha territories east fo Sutlej back to Marathas

That fact that Hindavi Swaraj could field 4-5 armies of roughly equal size in 4 different theatres of India indicates to what extent we had militarized and liberated India from Mughals and Islamic dominion in matter of 50 years.
