1/ 📢 Out Today: A new report on the contours of Parler. Our team examines growth dynamics (non) moderation policies, and platform growth in 🇧🇷 and 🇸🇦 .
2/ Our analysis pulled data from three snapshots of Parler’s roughly 29 months online. We looked at metrics from the API to map join dates and linguistic patterns on the site.
3/ Parler has roughly 800 moderators, but their moderation practices were purely reactive and did little to filter out spam or fraud accounts.
4/ Many of Parler’s most active accounts used RSS feeds or other integrations to automate their content posting, enabling content providers such as Epoch Times, The Daily Mail and Breitbart to automate posting across many social platforms.
5/ Parler had a stepped growth pattern, with jumps in new membership aligning with political events in the U.S.:
6/ Several distinct account creation peaks on Parler marked major user growth from Brazil and Saudi Arabia, plus QAnon accounts in Japanese, largely in response to increased content labeling and removal on Twitter.
7/ Our work analyzing the content on the platform will continue in the coming months.
5/ (correction) Parler had a stepped growth pattern, with jumps in new membership aligning with political events in the U.S.:
