I'm a broken record here but I feel weird about all the MTG coverage. It's obviously important & worth the outrage given her past and present actions and her election. But if it doesn't ultimately pressure the GOP it will have the end goal of making her more of a star

the reason i bring it up is she seems to be basically only interested in governing via shitposting. which means...attention gathering. what would it look like if the coverage only reflected what she could do with her power? idk but maybe there'd be less of it?

one other thing i think about is that a lot of convos i've heard about her aren't quite taking into account the very uncomfortable notion that she..uh..does represent the views of some of her constituents...(meaning the problem is big and the reality of all this is very 😬 )

my position right now (subject to change) is that we're still operating as if people are going to come to senses...that accountability is possible. and i basically don't think that's true anymore in most areas of politics and culture war. and i wonder if covg requires rethinking

anyhow, i am on the extreme pessimism side of this. that everyone will act in their own interests while not understanding the other groups & it will pull us somewhere much darker than we've been. but i really want to be wrong and i appreciate y'all allowing me to noodle out loud

Seen a number of people in replies say it would be a great thing if she became the face of the GOP. And the only thing i feel like I have to say to that is: knowing what we know..that is quiiiiite the gamble!

adding to this: a reason i'm pessimistic that calling out her shit will increase the cost of the GOP associating with her is i believe the GOP lawmakers are very scared and legit feeling hostage to the fringe (see: lawmakers afraid for lives to vote for impeachment).

for anything to work that doesn't result in more power/influence for her...a bunch of people need to show some incredible spine. unfortunately i think it will be easier for them all to lower the bar and give her and others more sway/room to operate.
