Today marks exactly one year since @ottawacity declared a housing emergency so let's the actions #Ottawa City Council has taken so far (a thread) 1/6:
Instead of putting the necessary funding they need for housing they put 25x more money towards the @OttawaPolice 25x than building new affordable homes. 2/6
Despite having very limited affordable housing supply, they voted to build the new Barrhaven LRT through a working-class neighbourhood 3/6
While they gave property owners a deferral on their property taxes, tenants at risk of losing their homes were left in the cold and had to fend for themselves 4/6
As a result of these careless actions and the ensuing pandemic, levels of homelessness continue to increase and have increased 67%...so much for an emergency. 5/6
.@ottawacity and @JimWatsonOttawa and his friends have done next to nothing since the declaration of the housing emergency.
Join us today and together we can do the work necessary to push #Ottawa to be a city that prioritizes housing as a human right. 6/6
