For our girls' 6th birthday, we didn't want to give them a bunch of stuff... so we are giving them a YES DAY today. Whatever they ask us for (as long as it's possible, safe and fair) we say YES! So far requests have been:
May I... have a cup of marshmallows? YES! ...have pasta for breakfast? YES!... pick out a pair of fancy shoes for you to wear today? YES!... watch non-educational cartoons? YES!... unlimited tablet time today? YES!
These are the shoes I have said yes to today 🤣 I'm actually really glad she didn't ask me to wear heels all day 😅 Image
They woke up earlier than Christmas morning they were so excited for YES day. ❤️💜💙🧡
smart girls, they're getting the hang of YES Day for sure. now they've asked "Will you clean our room for us?"... YES!
"may we have ice cream for lunch while watching Scooby Doo?" YES!!! Image
Can we go scramble in the woods? YES! Can we bake a rainbow cake? YES! Can we learn to play a new card game? YES! Only seven more hours to go.... ImageImage
"Can we stay up all night to see the supermoon and you stay up with us?" YES! (well, technically YES Day ends at midnight, so YES we can all try to stay up all night *until midnight* and watch the supermoon.)

NYT published an atrocious, scare-mongering fact-free article today about how kids' brains are going to be damaged by spending more time playing videogames during lockdown. All reckless speculation, and counter to actual evidence from studies. As a concussion survivor...
...this MAKES ME CRAZY. We know all kinds of youth sports carry actual long-term risks to brain development and health... from concussions. The games that truly risk brain damage are soccer, football, volleyball, etc. We are so backwards in our cultural thinking.
If we had even a fraction of the anxiety and concern and desire for safe limits put around high-impact youth sports and their impact on brain health as we do about perfectly safe (from a brain health perspective) videogames, kids would be happier and safer.

A quick thread about life in the apocalyptic wildfires. So, we couldn't smell smoke in our house, so we thought everything was fine. But family was feeling weird.... dizzy, eyes burning, throat scratchy. Fortunately our Purple Air sensor has just arrived! Plugged it in and... 1/#
Saw our INDOOR air quality was red, dangerous, 190. Even with every window shut, door closed, vents closed, towels under door openings...
We have a great BlueAir purifier, but it only cleans air in one room. If we move the purifier, the room goes from green (healthy) to orange within 15 minutes and red in an hour. So we are all four of us holed up in one bedroom with the dog, eating all our meals here...

I'm thinking of starting at at-home Scavenger Hunt: 1 thing to find in your own home each day, share your find here on Twitter. For example: Find a favorite book that you haven't read in awhile, read at least one page. Post a favorite sentence or photo. Would anyone like to play?
Please feel free to reply to this message or DM me with ideas for the scavenger hunt. It should be something most people could find in their homes, but that it would be interesting to see what 100s of people come up with as a reply!
Okay, awesome, it's ON! I'll round up some prizes. See you tomorrow for Day #1 of the Stay-at-Home Scavenger Hunt. #StayAtHomeHunt P.S. Feel free to play it with others in your home or with far away friends + family on text, Facebook, Whatsapp, and pick your own daily winner!
