AZ lawmakers who were in DC during the insurrection refuse public records request for emails/texts citing privacy and 5th Am right not to incriminate themselves. azcentral.com/story/news/pol…
2/ Lawmakers say "the threat of criminal prosecution gives rise to certain Constitutional rights that may overcome the duty to disclose otherwise public documents under Arizona’s public records law."
3/ "certain constitutional rights" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
4/ For those asking, generally the 5thA doesn't apply to documents and it certainly doesn't apply to documents that are public under state public records law. So the claim is doubly bogus. But they're trying anyway.

A telling illustration. On the right, failure to take elementary responsibility for one's actions becomes the basis of *new* threats and is used to stoke new grievances. It's a ratcheting cycle of unaccountability and menace. @tedcruz willfully stoked a climate of lies ...
2/ and aggression which led to a violent assault on the seat of government and at least five deaths. He's certainly not criminally responsible for those fatalities. But he bears a significant moral responsibility. His refusal to take any account of his own role only ...
3/ deepens the stain on him. He stoked that climate with claims he absolutely knew were lies and he didn't to advance his own career. We are already seeing numerous Republicans say that demands for accountability for what happened will lead to **new** violence.

I’m seeing say the GameStop carnival shows the need for financial market regulation. I’m not sure that’s quite right. And bear in mind I think we already know we need more financial market regulation. The argument was strong before this. This seems a bit different.
2/ part of the motivation here seems to have been that running up the value of GameStop was itself absurd, since it appears to be a dying company. It was funny. Yes hedge funds were shorting it. But the absurdity of it seems to have been part of the attraction.
3/ We have seen powerfully in recent years how the dark mojo of internet chat boards can spill over into real life. Mainly that’s been in politics but into other parts of the culture as well. Here we have a chat board gag/scheme suddenly threatening real havoc in ...

So it appears the Joe Manchin (and likely Kirstein Sinema) won't support ending the filibuster for the organizing resolution that puts the full Senate under Dem control. He also inexplicably *supports* Schumer's refusal to rule out ditching the filibuster.
2/ This is an absurd situation to be in. But there's a path forward. When someone is breaking the rules, being a dick or generally just coming at you the one thing you can never go is be passive. You ...
3/ must take the initiative. Currently Chuck Schumer controls the floor and the senate calendar. Committees are still chaired by the Republicans. It will stay that way until the organizing resolution dispute is settled. McConnell has zero incentive to settle it.

For Republicans who are confused about this, some pointers. GOP leader Donald Trump governed by making war on the so-called blue states. Supporters got cash and assistance, opponents got punished. Unity means governing on behalf of all Americans, not treating half the ...
2/ country like enemies. In the nature of things Biden's vision of what to prioritize will match what he ran on. More social spending, more focus on equity and social justice, the climate crisis, etc. That what happens when you win an election. That's democracy, not divisiveness.
3/ GOPs started by trying to overturn the election by mounting a coup and violent insurrection. Having failed at that they now want Democrats to overturn it on their behalf by agreeing to the absurd proposition that 'unity' can only mean pretending the election didn't happen.

I remain perplexed by people who say things like, ok we need lockdowns now but as soon as things calm down I'm not going to tolerate people extending them for no reason. I simply do not buy that there is or has ever been a constituency for needless lockdowns. Elected officials ..
2/ have if anything leaned in the opposite direction, struggling to balance health and dying economies. But what about the current situation makes you think wow, we've really overdone it with lockdowns. The US is in the midst of a staggering public health crisis ...
3/ which is on the tipping point of getting dramatically worse since we're basically at hospital capacity right now. Perhaps there will be people who want to continue enforcing mask mandates and banning indoor dining past the point when it's necessary. But we've simply ...

During the siege R and D reps were packed into an undisclosed secure location while the Capitol was cleared. Packed closer space. Many GOPs still refused to mask. Contemporaneous reports had Dem seniors begging their colleagues to mask. Many still refused. Now ...
2/ five days later two Dem Reps have tested positive for COVID.
3/ Here a Dem Rep, I believe from Delaware offers masks to GOPs as other plead. They either refuse or mock her. The blonde woman is the new Qanon Rep Marjorie Greene.
