Interesting article in Hankook Ilbo on why there are so many cluster outbreaks affecting S. Korean Protestant Christianity and not other religions.

Simple answer: competition. Korean Christianity encourages competitive psychology, ranking religious faith. hankookilbo.com/News/Read/A202…
In other words, it means faith should come ahead of anything else, encouraging over the top competition. They see faith as their top priority, and go beyond common sense.
Some call for people to have a martyr's attitude, putting church in a dangerous situation which then gives wrong belief that their faith is the right one. They try to instill a sense of superiority to members of overcoming Covid-19 crisis through faith.
For them, this "superior" faith is a greater source of pride than true faith and religious values - putting church activities ahead of quarantine control.

The pastors then become heroes to the congregation.
This is why we constantly see the emergence of pastors who emphasize face-to-face worship. For them, a government that blocks church activity is a form of Satan, because a pastor who criticises the government can be seen as a hero against Satan.
There are also political reasons. These churches are mostly all conservative. Going against the government's quarantine measures is a means of strengthening anti-government sentiment. The conservative Christian lobby group holds formidable voting power.
Some pointed out that now some churches are taking spiritual, physical, and material exploitation in the name of the religious maturity of the church members.

Point in case is the IM missionary group which has thrived thanks to Covid-19.
IM is known to have expanded its business rapidly in line with the spread of Covid-19.

2-3 years ago, only had a few institutions, but number surged since last year, now 24. Covid-19 "blocked" children's study abroad/learn English so they created these "international" school.
The bottom line is, churches in Korea are synonymous with businesses desperate to survive and make juicy profits. Number of followers are decreasing, and they will do whatever it takes to hold their diminishing power hence the competition and corruption.

Korean theology graduate student with brain lesion quits course just before graduation, realising no church would ever accept a pastor with disabilities.

Every church he applied to rejected him, mostly taking issue with his "disability". news1.kr/articles/?4196…
Yoo Jin-woo wanted to connect with underprivileged people, being a minority himself, through becoming a pastor. But all the churches cited his disability. Or said he couldn't play football with church kids.

Not quite the "knock, and the door will be opened for you" in the Bible.
Jin-woo says his initial goal to "fight for the underprivileged until the end" has not changed, although he has moved away from his dream of becoming a pastor. He wants to confront the discrimination inherent within the church against people with disabilities / in wheelchairs.

1/ I thought I'd write about my experience re-entering South Korea, where I reside, during this global pandemic. It wasn't a 5 minute job like in London Heathrow where I was out in no time. Instead, it took 24 hours. Here's what happened: Image
2/ During flight, needed to fill out multiple forms incl. quarantine papers. Upon arrival in Incheon, immediate body temperature scan. As I was coming from the UK, quarantine official already had my name on list of a handful of people from hotspot UK/South Africa. Given lanyard. ImageImage
3/ Next, I was told to throw away my KF-94 mask that I was wearing, replace it with their own even tighter twin strap 3M KF-95 mask, and made to wait to get tested for Covid-19 even though I already had a negative certificate. Test was carried out on the freezing windy tarmac. Image

조 바이든 미 대선후보 연합뉴스 기고문:

"나는 한국 국민과, 한국이 전쟁 이후 성취한 모든 것에 대해 깊은 존경심을 갖고 있다."

yna.co.kr/view/AKR202010…
