3 months ago, I started here on Twitter. But with no active followers, my early days were tough. π’
I made up my mind to find ways to grow to 400 followers ASAP.
I decided to use basic human behavior to tackle this.
And got there in 8 weeks.

Why 400? It is sort of this magic number to tell people that I'm a real Twitter person! π
1) Finding out which circle I want to be in β
>>People hang out with similar and like-minded people.<<
Know what friends you want to make on Twitter, go to key influencers that match the description.
Their followers (find them in latest tweets) are who you're looking for.
2) I wasn't following everyone I could find β
There were all kinds of people, I only wanted friends that we could help each other grow.
I only followed people with <600 followers.
>>These people are a few steps ahead of me and probably still notice me once I follow them.<<
3) I didn't mind making the first move π
>> When one person makes the first move, the other person appreciates it. <<
So I followed them and engaged with their tweets first.
4) As down to earth as possible π
>>They then checked out my profile, so I needed to at least showcase my authentic self.<<
I had a genuine profile with my photo, simple words, and some values I care about.
I wanted to be a friend, not an influencer.
5) When they showed interest, I was ready to make friends πββοΈ
>>When they followed me back, I took the chance to turn a cold relationship into a meaningful one.<<
I asked questions, joked, and helped even more.
6) After I consistently put in 8 weeks of hard work, I got there to my first 400 followers. π
I now don't have to look like this crazy guy poking my face everywhere. I'm focused on creating valuable content to grow organically.
But this jumpstart helped a lot.
This is a short version of the story. You can join my newsletter if you enjoy the story of my learnings in more depth. I share weekly π₯¦π₯¦ kevoncheung.com/newsletter
After getting to 400 in 8 weeks, now itβs at 767 after another 4 weeks via sharing learnings.
Donβt get me wrong. This strategy is good for a jumpstart, but long term wise, keep delivering values and good learnings to others. Thatβs what sticks. βοΈ
