Gogai, gogai!! Lots of you saw the #Utena musicals for the first time last weekend, so it feels like a good time to do a MUSICAL UTENA CONTENT MASTERPOST. We have it all, losers!! Let the pro-clicks commence!! Thanks to @Nagumo191 for translating. Images scanned and edited by me!

Musical Utena (both lol)
Finally, Chiho Saito produced new artwork for each of the shows, and while they are in the programs above, hell yeah new Saito artwork:
It's hard to get *new* copies of the BR/DVD to support this production. Throwing 'ミュージカル 少女革命ウテナ' into Amazon Japan, CD Japan, Rakuten, etc, will find you copies but most, especially the first show, will be used. If you do have it, contact me for the subtitles/show.
Finally, I do not yet have translated the BRS curtain call or any of the behind the scenes content, of which there is a lot! If you're interested in jumping on that grenade, I'll do the subtitling. :)
In the meantime, enjoy your meal!! Watch for new streams! We love doing them!
Oh uh, finally, finally...this content wasn't cheap, and tho I have no regrets spending a long awkward minute in the merch line IN JAPAN saying that I do actually want *that many* bromides, we have a Patreon you can support the site and content through: patreon.com/empty_movement

Okay so I'm going to explain this, because there's some curiosity here. :) Yes, in the late 90's, it was a common read that Utena was straight, and that Utena and Anthy were just THAT CLOSE, etc, etc. WHY? Well! Let's go on a journey!!
Fans in the late 90's were working with a LOT less info about the series. There was little meta, no movie, and MUCH less artwork. All that gay gay gay Utena artwork you all know and love? Yeah that wasn't available until my website posted it, starting in 2002. You're welcome. :)
What production materials DID come to us at the time were gatekeeped by local distributors to focus heavily on heteronormative aspects of the show. The VHS box art, for example, plays up Utena and Touga, and features almost no Anthy:
Look at these two sharing this intimate if confusing moment of mutual attraction that neither counted on or looked for! Let's start volume 4 of the #Utena manga! LIVETWEET FROM THE TUB!
These scenes are roughly equivalent in that both involve Akio demanding a vocalization of compliance from Anthy. In the manga it's a direct question and framed by genuine physical intimacy. In the series, it's cloaked in metaphor and the framing emphasizes how distant they are.
This is definitely confirming for me that Saito imagined much younger versions of Akio and Anthy than the series ultimately depicts. They're siblings, and it's horrifying, and they're a mess... But they're younger, more frank, and still believe in one another to some degree. Boo.
