AZ leg has already introduced more than 30+ anti-voter bills. We MUST speak up. Lawmakers should be empowering eligible voters, not disrupting their access to the ballot. Call 877-406-6303 today!
Here’s why a few of bills moving this week (of many) undermine democracy (THREAD):
SB1069: Takes “permanent” out of PEVL. If you miss a federal, legislative or statewide race during a primary or general election 2 times in a row, you get removed from the PEVL. (2/9)
HB2357: The AG’s alleged voter fraud unit does not need power to investigate vague allegations of fraud without reasonable cause. This bill is predicated on conspiracy theories and lies. (3/9)
HB2358: Purges eligible voters from the rolls if they change their address. State officials should be more concerned with keeping eligible voters on the rolls than removing them. Likely a violation of federal law. (4/9)
SB1068: Usurps the power of millions of voters who elect officials to carry out their constitutional duty (re: the elections procedures manual) and gives it to an unelected body of partisan bureaucrats with no accountability to voters. (5/9)
SB1329: The current process to approve the elections manual is bipartisan and successful. Putting the approval of the elections manual in the power of a less transparent and political body will be disruptive and divisive. (6/9)
SB1358: seems innocuous but does immense harm. It prevents recorder staff from doing community-based voter registration — festivals, naturalization ceremonies — with significant impact in rural areas and a discriminatory impact on Native Americans. (7/9)
SB1003: There is no reason why a voter who makes one fixable mistake (no signature) versus another (messy signature) is treated differently. This disenfranchises communities of color and voters who need the most assistance. (8/9)
Again, these are just a few of 30+ bills trying to take the power from our votes.
DON’T LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT: Call 877-406-6303 and tell your state senator to vote NO on #SB1069 and all bills that undermine democracy. (9/9)
