Democratic aides told us they can't pass a paid leave mandate through reconciliation. Republicans are against the mandate anyways.
The temporary fix: the same optional tax credits for some businesses.

Without requiring companies to actually give employees paid time off, extending tax credits just don’t amount to much. It’s not clear if companies would even be required to let workers know such leave is available to them.

A Senate procedure note: A Democratic aide close to talks told me they haven't decided whether they plan on including the language for a mandate anyways leaving it subject to an objection on the Senate floor.
