@mollieequick So we asked others from around the ship why the Big XO is named such. We first tried chatting with SUPPO, but he was asleep in his stateroom, which is why we call him Sleepy SUPPO. 3/12
@mollieequick We then asked the Reactor Officer, he responded with, "I cannot disclose any information regarding the reactor." Puzzled, we asked again, much slower, and he responded with something about Star Trek and Dungeons and Dragons... 4/12
@mollieequick Disappointed we took our question to Strike. Which is a cool job, tasked with creating cartoons and really good coffee. We think he has other responsibilities but we were distracted with the cartoons. (Side note - for millennials - cartoons are black & white memes). 5/12

@mollieequick On an Aircraft Carrier you have multiple smaller commands assigned. Typically these commands are the squadrons from the embarked Carrier Air Wing (abbreviated CVW - why not CAW you ask - don't ask). 9/12
@mollieequick So, each squadron has an XO (executive officer), which has functionally similar responsibilities but w/less Sailors to account for. In short you have a lot of XOs running around, acting like they are the meanest XO. (We hear they have an XO fight club, that's another story) 10/12
@mollieequick When the Air Wing is embarked the Ship's XO sets the tone for how the crew and by virtue of presence, the Air Wing takes care of the ship. Hence he is the BIG XO *said in scary voice* 11/12
