Thread from a fellow GA14: @mtgreenee apologized on the House floor today. She gave an explanation for her past comments and the evolution of her beliefs/thinking that I can assure you her constituents will believe and find reasonable. She basically said
“I’m a regular citizen, not an ivory tower intellectual, wonk, or swamp”. That matters [most] to them, and provides cover for her Facebook videos and comments. She sounded sincere and humbled. However, this is in direct contrast to her demeanor over the last 4 weeks and
comes on the heels of an onslaught of tweets using this to fund raise. She says she didn’t campaign on these conspiracies and stopped believing them in 2018/19. But she waited until today... until her ability to do her actual job was in jeopardy...to say this publicly...
Having publicly acknowledged her comments were outrageous, having publicly (on the House floor) denounce Q, school shooting, and 9/11 conspiracies she’s fallen back in line with conventional thinking and recognized the audacity of her own words. So why are the @HouseDemocrats
still going to remove her form committees? Because she won. She stayed in the grey on this right up until the last minute. She gained support as an anti-establishment voice (filling a void left by Trump) and raised a lot of money doing so. She managed to take advantage of
this entire controversy to work in her favor. So even though she’s essentially done what they wanted from her, they have to punish her for their own base and vindication. They are about to impeach Trump for the crime of inference, how can they let her off the hook now?
.@mtgreenee isn’t a martyr for the defiant right. She a haphazard opportunist. But in a world where common sense Americans are fight to keep post pubescent young men out of their daughters sports, to keep their union jobs safe from misinformed climate cultists, to keep
gov’t agencies from circumventing the judicial process in restricting first and second amendment rights, to keep their children’s education safe from the hooks of white guilt and social experiment... in this world voters feel they can’t afford to lose this battle too.
In excommunicating @mtgreenee (whatever her motivations) the Dems will galvanize her support and normalize her journey from conspiracy theorist to victim for fed up conservatives nationwide. I don’t yet understand the calculation @SpeakerPelosi is making here, but rest assured
In voting against MTG today, Dems will enshrine a sentiment of overreaction and overreach that will echo in congressional races nationwide come ‘22 “IF” R’s are smart enough to navigate and harness it.
