Open Democracy "free thinking for the world" has really lost its way @AnthonyBarnett @maryftz

Shock horror! UK government minister meets with some lesbians who think being a lesbian doesn't involve having sex with men

@ALLIANCELGB
“It’s completely inappropriate for the Equalities Minister to meet with the LGB Alliance" says SNP MP John Nicolson

Amnesty International don't like it either

Open Democracy please publish the approved list of groups that are allowed a voice.

Also change your name
Then there was the "dark money" expose - which involved adding up regional expenditures published in US charities annual reports.

Sure analyse the data, but calling this "dark money" is shoddy shoddy

Then there was the really odd "expose" on Christmas day (!) that Amazon's customer charity donation scheme Smile is open to any registered charity, not just the ones that Open Democracy's staff like

And this article from back in 2018 opendemocracy.net/en/5050/christ…
"There is no evidence that they are actively working together" Open Democracy says in expose, but they are "unlikely allies".

So, not allies then.
Here they smear women supporting Linda Bellos & Venice Allen when they were being prosecuted under the Communications Act as "protesting against trans rights"

We were protesting for the ability to speak openly on the material reality of sex.

You know, like an an Open Democracy
They did give @kiritunks @Womans_Place_UK right to reply to that hit piece

So I hope they are going to give @ALLIANCELGB the right to respond to the latest one.

opendemocracy.net/en/5050/trans-…
This article is a doozy arguing that Twitter and Facebook are not doing a good enough job at shutting down women's speech.

They must try harder urges Amnesty International (again)

Some women with disagreeable opinions are still managing to be heard.

opendemocracy.net/en/5050/online…
They are particularly concerned about Mumsnet.

God forbid mothers might get together and discuss women's rights
Open Democracy defer to Adrian Harrop, Lily Madigan, John Nicholson, Sarah Brown, Amnesty International as arbiters of what women should be able to say on social media, who should be able to fundraise, who should be allowed to meet ministers.
What I want to know is who is funding this "Tracking the Backlash" project?

It involves an unaccountable group labelling others as "the backlash"

And then systematically working tor remove access to the public square or to democratic debate.

😢😢

This is not open democracy

These emails between Tim Hopkins of The Equality Network and Scottish Government are eye opening

whatdotheyknow.com/request/701663…
Apparently trying to differentiate between people gender dysphoria who transition and autogynephillic men is "anti-trans"
Remember this is what the doctors whose work lead to the Gender Recognition Act set out to do

Using the diagnostic aid of expecting women to be able to tell the difference between "true trans women" and autogynephillic men

Excellent briefing from MBM on the strange tale of how "cross dressers" got included as a protected characteristic in the Scottish hate crime bill

Some thoughts and pictures...

mbmpolicy.files.wordpress.com/2021/01/hate-c…
What is a "person" who cross dresses?

If i wear my husband's shirt some days am I a person who cross dresses?

What if he wears my blouse?

What the Scottish Government actually mean is men who wear women's clothes
As Susan Smith of @ForwomenScot asks - why is one set of people is being protected for sartorial choice and others not....people attacked for being Goths, having facial tattoos, piercings, the wrong football strip or school uniform. Why is one dress sense protected?

You remember when the National Lottery investigated questions about Mermaids ?

Mermaids denied they lobby for putting children with gender dysphoria on puberty blockers

Today they suggest that self reported feeling happier and having better relationships with peers justifies stopping children's puberty and putting them on to a pathway to sterilisation
The their reporting as a self help group for parents of children with gender dysphoria is utterly one sided towards promoting blockers

1st of Feb - a year ago today I made this speech @Womans_Place_UK

What an amazing day it was.
As I said then "I am not an academic feminist, not a
professional feminist, not a radical feminist, not a socialist feminist. I am a feminist and I'm an ordinary woman
who knows what a woman is and who refused to shut up about it."
"I will stand beside Labour women, Conservative women Liberal Democrats, Greens SNP and the women who find
themselves politically homeless, Democrats and Republicans, men of all political stripes, transsexuals who do not demand that we deny reality....

Reducing risk of sexual crime (voyeurism, exposure, assault - a risk mainly posed by men) is just one reason we have sex segregated spaces in some situations (privacy & dignity is another).

& Unisex options are often possible so that everyone can be accommodated comfortably
The "Swedish Study" is a peer reviewed long term follow up study of 324 ppl undergoing surgical transition

Included in its findings is that MtF transsexuals retained a male pattern of criminality including violent crime

journals.plos.org/plosone/articl…
This is an inconvenient finding for people advocating for allowing males to be able to self-identify into previously female-only spaces

They say there is no basis for concerns about the risk for women.
