“We were excited to start our new life here.”

Hannah Ege’s story broke my heart. Her husband Sheria Musyoka was killed in a car crash along Lake Merced.

She aaid they moved f/CT less than 2 weeks ago. SF was their California dream...turned nightmare.

Police say Jerry Lyons (pictured here) was driving a stolen car, on drugs when he hit and killed Sheria, who was out for a jog.

Hannah went searching for Sheria when he didn’t come home.

When she got to the lake she said “I just hyperventilated.”
Sheria’s mentor says he was brilliant. A Dartmouth grad, top 3% in his class. Speaks 5 languages and wanted to teach their 3-year old son Theo Swahli.

He had bid dreams of one day buying a house in Kenya to be with his family there part of the year.
Me: “Who do you blame for this tragedy?”

Hannah: “The DA.”

I obtained documents showing Lyons has an arrest from 10/20 for driving a stolen vehicle and drug possession. The DA then deferred to post release community supervision.

Hannah left her job as a special ed teacher to care for 3-year old Theo during the pandemic.

She is now without a husband, a job, furniture (the moving truck hasn’t arrived yet) in a new city & needs help.

Her friend put together this GoFundMe. bit.ly/2YSCcD0

I’m getting a lot of questions on what the community can do to help.

Many children and friends of seniors tell me they are terrified to go out in public now.

I’m talking to a young man who is starting a grocery escorting program in the city. Will share more shortly.
This is Jacob Azevedo. He is organizing volunteers to help him accompany seniors & anybody in Chinatown who feels unsafe—while running errands.

He’s working with the Chinatown Chamber to connect with businesses.

To volunteer you can email him at CompassionInOakland@gmail.com
