Hundred and forty seven (147) years ago today, the then hundred and seventy six year old capital city of Osei Tutu, Kumasi, was burned down completely by the invading imperial forces of the British led by General Sir Garnet Wolseley - Sagranti War! Awerehosem.....
Had Asante been a sovereign nation-state, this day would have been celebrated big time.... How many nations in the history of the world have had their capital invaded and burnt by invaders and city dwellers deserting their homes?
After the city was burned down we still got up dust ourself off and was back in the saddle, started the race again when every other city in Gold Coast then was gone and far ahead of “poor” Kumasi in urbanisation and complex modern structure.
We started the race again run a lone and here we are, Kumasi is now Ghana’s second city, with Greater Kumasi having over 3 million city dwellers as at 2020.
How many towns and cities in the history of the world were able to pick back their broken pieces of destruction and....
turn it into a possibility but I’m glad to tell you that Kumasifuo and Asantefoo were able to make such a history count in their favour. So illustrious isn’t it? Welcome to Kumasi, Ghana’s first cosmopolitan city.
Piawwwwwww!!!!

HOW MANY TIMES DOES AN ASANTEHENE WEAR THE BULLETPROOF WAR JACKET (Batakarikeseɛ) IN HIS LIFETIME?
Batakari kesee was consecrated by the Prophet Komfo Anokye to Otumfuo Opoku Ware l, because of how the demise of his bosom friend Asantehene Osei Tutu l happened.
Asantehene Opoku Ware was the first Asantehene to wear Batakari kesee.
Many are those that believe that every Asantehene wears the bulletproof war jacket (Batakarikeseɛ) twice in his lifetime . But that is not the case and cannot be the case.
1. An Asantehene wears the Batakarikeseɛ during his enstoolment as Asantehene. 2. During the funeral of his predecessor. 3. During the funeral of an Asantehemaa. 4. Should more than one Asantehemaa die in office during his time as Asantehene,
The “self acclaimed” Nkoransa Chief tried to use ‘thugs’ dressed in Police uniforms to takeover the Nkoransa Palace. The resistance of The Nkoransa People have won many admirations and respect from Asanteman.
Nkoransa belongs to Otumfuo Santehene and nobody can change that.
Nkoransa is Otumfuo’s son. So nobody can venture Nkoransa calling himself Nkoransa manhene without Otumfuo (Father’s) knowledge and Nkoransahemaa’s approval. As Otumfuo rightly said and I quote “Ose oye ohene a, obedi ne hene no ama ma hwe”.
As far as Otumfuo Santehene and Asanteman are concern there is No Nkoransahene at the moment. Take not!!
And to those disorganised, jumbled and muddled states that has envied the mighty, of Asante from time immemorial and are looking forward to sow a seed of disunity among us...
Otumfoɔ Kofi Kaakari was succeeded by Otumfoɔ Osei Mensa Bonsu in the year (1874). Probably, this is the first ever photo taken of an Asantehene.
His main objective on his enstoolment was to restore the Asante Nation to its former glory and status.
To do this he planned first to get the states which had broken back to the fold.
His first target was to get Dwaben (Juaben) back to back into the fold.
He discovered that Dwaben had been joined by Asokore, Nsuta, Effiduase and Oyoko. He therefore explored all avenues at his disposal to get them back in a peaceful way. After all such efforts had failed, he took arms.
States like Kokofu, Bekwai, and Asumegya joined Kumase state
We cannot control what happens to us. But we verily have enormous control over how we choose to respond to the apples and lemons thrown our way by life.
Have you heard of Kumerica? Voila.
👉
Kumerica started as a jab at the Kumasi people (Asantes). You would see a beautiful photo of a portion of America juxtaposed with an obviously lower class Kumasi version. That was such a cool upper cut. We all laughed. We ridiculed them.
If this had been another city or especially tribe, we would have seen the myrmidon of mentality blowing vuvuzelas in midday sun, verbally smearing hot choleric bile all over these streets and telling us all how this is another attempt to brand them as foreigners, not Ghanaians.
