I'm still stuck on the fact that someone thought "are you a virgin" was an ok question to ask
I wish I could go back in time and grab that mic from Britney and scream NONE OF YOUR FUCKING BUSINESS
If you watch the Britney andTiger docs back to back, you see how gross and entitled media felt about the cash cows B and T's parents created.
The "serious" news media benefits from tabloid skeeze too, because they're covering it. There's no way to be a respectable parasite
And of course, there's very little serious interrogation of this. Both in celebrity and sports media, there are folks who operate on the idea that because these people rake in tons of money, they have forfeited some right to need human things like fulfilment and connection
When I was covering sports full-time, there was always this single-minded approach to athletes: Is said athlete's need and desire for human things like stable mental health, love, emotional support, getting in the way of their athletic output?
It was disgusting, and indicative of the toxic masculinity and usually racism, too, of the field as a whole that it was de rigeur to regard human athletes the same way you might regard a racing greyhound
There's little attention paid to people's interiority until they lash out in a way that looks "crazy."
And then folks act surprised when things come to a head. It's ridiculous ... you can see it coming if you have any emotional literacy
And if you just ... treat people like people instead of celebrity automatons
It's really depressing when I think of all the times I knew and felt, in a press box, that I was a kooky minority for taking people's emotional states seriously instead of sneering at the insignificance of such a thing
Anyway, you can be a good journalist without approaching subjects and beats with cold, detached psychopathy and calling it "objectivity"
We really spent all this time telling women and girls, en masse, that the only thing interesting about them was sex and then ... got mad and disgusted when they responded by ... investing in the sex part
I hate everyone

I'm surprised! I did not expect such a literal turn. It's kind of interesting?
I used to be obsessed with all things 1940s. There's so much great children's literature set during that era (see also: the original All Creatures Great and Small). Hunh.
really annoyed that Brian Tyree Henry doesn’t have the career/mag covers/etc commensurate with his stratospheric talent and charisma
He's a leading man.
I've seen a few of these "But the MCU!" tweets and it's so dreary and depressing to think that fronting some massive company's superhero IP is the best use of his time and talents.
This country does not *have* to be this broken. But it will remain so as long as it continues to self soothe with white supremacist mythology instead of reckoning with truth.
The Capitol Police had more ire and force for Cynthia McKinney, a whole then-SITTING CONGRESSWOMAN that they did for armed terrorists sfgate.com/politics/amp/M…
Leadership basically made Rep. McKinney apologize for that cop's racism!
It was so gross.
All 44 did was (correctly!) say a cop acted stupidly for arresting an old black man who uses a cane entering his own house and he had to have that idiotic beer summit
