THREAD: @iampinkywebb speaks to Defense Secretary @del_lorenzana on #TheSource | LIVE bit.ly/3jtXK2r

• UP, DND meet on termination of 1989 Accord
• Parlade under fire for calling reporter a ‘credible threat’
• Envoy: No need to worry about China’s new Coast Guard law
DND Secretary Delfin Lorenza says his meeting with University of the Philippines President Danilo Concepcion was ‘very cordial’: I'm glad we finally met. We agreed to form a panel to talk and move forward, to ensure protection of UP students
DND Sec. Lorenzana: The UP-DND Accord is still terminated. That’s the reason why we will talk again and find ways to move forward.
DND Sec. Lorenzana: I directed one of my legal officers to be our representative in the UP-DND panel. They will meet one of these days.
DND Sec. Lorenzana says the main reason why he terminated the UP-DND Accord is because it’s ‘outdated’: The atmosphere then and now is very different. There was a prevailing mistrust in law enforcement agencies then.
Lt. Gen. Parlade branded Inquirer.net reporter Tetch Torres-Tupas as a 'propagandist' over an article she wrote on Aetas seeking to join petitions against the anti-terrorism law.

DND Sec. Lorenzana says Parlade is certain that he has evidence to prove his remarks.
DND Sec. Lorenzana: The journalist showed the side of the Aetas, so she should also publish the side of the military. Hindi nangyari 'yung torture na 'yon according to Parlade.
Parlade said in a Facebook comment that Torres-Tupas may be held liable under the law for 'aiding the terrorists by spreading lies.'

Parlade has been criticized for red-tagging personalities and groups critical of the government. bit.ly/2LwKYni
Senator Ping Lacson said Parlade's remarks are 'uncalled for and totally unnecessary.'

DND Sec. Lorenzana: This is a thin line between freedom of expression and aiding terrorists. I suggest to the media to seek the side of the military, Parlade, and ask why he said that.
DND Sec. Lorenzana: I understand the feeling of the journalist because she may have felt threatened. I think these two sides (Torres-Tupas and Parlade) should meet personally and resolve the issue.
DND Sec. Lorenzana, responding to Sen. @kikopangilinan, says only the President can remove Lt. Gen. Parlade from his post
Chinese Embassy in Manila brushed aside claims that China’s new law, which authorizes its Coast Guard to fire on foreign vessels entering contested waters, is a threat of war.

DND Sec. Lorenzana: I'm very concerned about this law. It might cause miscalculations and accidents.
DND Sec. Lorenzana on China's new law that authorizes its Coast Guard to fire on foreign vessels entering contested waters: We will talk with our allies. But the Americans continue patrolling the area. I'm sure the Chinese are also concerned about these patrols.
DND Sec. Lorenzana to Filipino fishermen: I advise them to continue fishing in their traditional fishing grounds like Scarborough Shoal and Mischief Reef. We will protect them.
