Today in Ofer military court, the prosecution asked the judge to sentence me to the maximum amount of time possible for each of the 6 counts I have been convicted on, which I was advised I will receive as a suspended sentence.
1-10
In addition, I was notified that I will receive a fine of an amount that has not yet been determined. The military judge will decide on the specifics of my sentence over the next few weeks.
2-10
The fact that I have not been imprisoned at this stage demonstrates that the international focus and pressure around my case has worked and the Israeli military court has determined that they do not wish to face more scrutiny on this subject.
3-10
what this sentence also means is that they are still trying to find a way of shutting down my nonviolent resistance to Israeli apartheid and occupation. Although the terms and conditions of my suspended sentence are not yet known (4-10)
it is clear that the intention is for me to live in fear that they can put me in jail at any moment for any peaceful action, or act of nonviolent resistance that I engage in. (5-10)
My defence today had brought forward four witnesses who attempted to give testimony around the daily reality of the occupation, apartheid, and settler violence and its impact on the Palestinian population. (6-10)
The judge refused to allow the witnesses any opportunity to speak about the context or background that led me to take up my role as a human rights defender, despite this being the very thing that informs my activism and why as human right defenders. (7-10)
we have no choice but to resort to civil disobedience until we win our right to freedom, justice, equality and a life of dignity.
 (8-10)
I would like to take the time to thank all my friends around the world who have stood in solidarity with me through this time and who I know will continue to do so with the Palestinian people and reassert that no matter what the cost, (9-10)
I will not stop my peaceful activities and nonviolent activism against the occupation. I will continue to defend the rights of my people until we have achieved a just peace. (10-10)
