Why is your electricity bill so expensive?

(A Thread 1/10)
Do you know what is in your power bill?

City, state, and county taxes. A bewildering assortment of fees.

But is that all you're paying for?

(2/10)
Here's what you won't see on your electricity bill:

Federal and, in many places, state taxes that you pay to subsidize wind and solar generation.

(3/10)
Wind and solar are unsustainable and highly expensive energy sources, yet you are being forced to pay for it.

(4/10)
Federal subsidies alone for wind and solar industries totaled more than $70 billion from 2010 to 2019.

These subsidies are artificially propping up the industry.

Take them away and very likely the industry will not exist.

(5/10)
You're paying a lot more for energy than you should be - and it's not just you.

(6/10)
Many poor families devote more than 10% of their income after food, rent and transportation to electricity.

(7/10)
A third of American households report having difficulty paying their electricity bills, and...

(8/10)
7 million families face the choice between putting food on the table or keeping their home warm during the cold winter months.

(9/10)
Maybe we should be thinking more about them and less about expensive, inefficient wind and solar energy.

The claim:

"Slavery made America rich."

The facts:
The institution of slavery slowed the economic development of half the U.S.

In 1860, the South only had 1/6th as many factories as the North

Almost 90% of skilled laborers were in the North, along with banking, railroads, and manufacturing

The South was an economic backwater
The cost of abolishing slavery was enormous

Lincoln borrowed billions to pay for it

360,000 Union soldiers died to free 4 million slaves

That means one soldier in blue died for every 10 slaves freed

The Holocaust: A Thread

The Holocaust was the systematic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of 6 million Jews by the Nazi regime and its collaborators between 1941 and 1945.

The term "Holocaust" comes from a Greek word meaning sacrifice by fire.
encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/art…
The Nazis considered Jews to be an inferior race that posed a deadly threat to the German "Volk."

Soon after taking power, the Nazis adopted measures to exclude Jews from German economic, social, and cultural life and to pressure them to leave the country.
World War II provided Nazi officials with the opportunity to pursue a “final solution" to the Jewish question: the murder of all the Jews in Europe.

FACTS THREAD:

In 2019, police fatally shot 9 unarmed blacks.

That represents 0.1% of all African-Americans killed that year.

However, in 2019, police shot 19 unarmed whites.

By contrast, a police officer is 18½ times MORE LIKELY to be killed by a black male.
In contrast:

On Memorial Day weekend in Chicago, 10 Blacks were killed in drive-by shootings.

A 72-year-old Chicago man shot in the face on May 29 by a gunman.

Two 19-year-old women on the South Side were shot to death.

A 16-year-old boy was fatally stabbed that same day.
In 2019, police fatally shot 1,004 people, most of whom were armed or dangerous.

Blacks were about a quarter of those killed by cops last year.

In 2018, Blacks made up 53% of homicide offenders.

They also committed about 60% of robberies, though they are 13% of the population.

An open letter to @Google co-founder Sergey Brin, from @DennisPrager

1/
Dear Mr. Brin:

Fifty years ago this week, when I was a 21-year-old college senior, I was in the Soviet Union, sent by the government of Israel to smuggle in Jewish religious items ...
@Google @DennisPrager 2/
and smuggle out names of Jews who wanted to escape the Soviet Union and could then be issued a formal invitation to Israel.

I was chosen because I was a committed Jew and because I knew Hebrew and Russian. I was no hero, but the trip did entail risk.
@Google @DennisPrager 3/
The Soviets did not appreciate people smuggling out names of Soviet citizens who sought to emigrate, information the Israeli government and activist groups in America used to advocate on their behalf.
