Good morning Mthwakazi🔆
Today we are going to talk about the heart of the solar system, the batteries 🔋🔋🔋and charge controllers ⚡⚡⚡

⚠️A thread⚠️
We all know what a battery is but ill focus on the charge controller first.
A charge controller is a device responsible for charging and maintaining the system batteries with the aid of solar panels of course, it can also supply DC loads ofcourse
Charge controllers are used MOSTLY in offgrid setups. There are 2 types of charge controllers

MPPT. & PWM
1.PWM charge controller
These operate by making a connection directly from the solar array to the battery bank. During bulk charging, when there is a continuous connection from the array to the battery bank, the array output voltage is 'pulled down' to the battery voltage.
They are the cheapest in the market and can go as little $30.
Most of these are the culprits in damaging gel batteries and are not for lithium ion batteries.
They are okay for low end offgrid solar system
Be sure to choose the right size as they can burn inverters.
2. MPPT
Maximum Power Point Tracking is electronic tracking - usually digital. The charge controller looks at the output of the panels and compares it to the battery voltage. It then figures out what is the best power that the panel can put out to charge the battery.
They are highly recommended and start from $100+. They are expensive but keep your batteries in shape. All my clients who use mppt controllers are happy. These are the high end charge controllers & if you have lithium ion batteries this is the charger for you
It can be set to whaever voltage is suitable for the type of battery you have. Its my personal favourite!!!
BATTERIES
First things first i would like to stress that a car battery IS NOT SUITABLE FOR SOLAR SYSTEMS. I have seen some people buy car batteries and expect them to last 4hours.... like tf????
Anyways there are several types of solar batteries and it would take all day to explain so i will focus on

Lead Acid
Gel+
Lithium
Lead Acid
Lead acid batteries are the most common form of solar battery storage currently on the market. They will give you 1000-3000 cycles at about 60% depth of discharge. So if you are discharging 60% every day, they'll last 3-8 years. Cheapest in the market.
Gel+
A modern gel battery is a VRLA battery with a gelified electrolyte; the sulfuric acid is mixed with fumed silica, which makes the resulting mass gel like and immobile. Unlike a flooded wet cell lead—acid battery, these batteries do not need to be kept upright.
Gel battery has a cycle life of approximately 600-800 cycles to 50% Depth of Discharge. So if you are discharging 50% every day, they'll last 3-5 years. They are available in 12v only
Lithium ion
These are the most expensive in the market
The iphones of the solar battery industry Lithium ion solar batteries are deep cycle batteries, so they have DoDs around 95% WHEN BRAND NEW
This means if you discharge 95% or less every day they can last you up to 10 YEARS!!! Talk about value for money😃😃😃 they are worth it in the long run.
I have heard many people complain about gel batteries, remember they have a depth of discharge of discharge of 50%, if you are discharging them to a point that they are flat everyday they will not last!!!!! In order to curb that a proper system with gel batteries consists of
A lot gel batteries and if they do not discharge to below 50% , they will last you fir years. With that being said, any questions?

I'm getting a lot of DMs about which inverters i should buy and what not, some last some don't last.... so here's what's currently vastly available in the market. I am posting based what we have experienced so ill try to be as neutral as possible

A thread⚠️⚠️⚠️
VICTRON QUATTRO
This is one of the most expensive in the market, the "iphones" of the solar market, works with the charge controller on fig 2 or a PV inverter. Its loaded with features, can feed back to the grid, and is VERY RELIABLE & IS VALUE FOR MONEY
....
It comes in 4kw, 5kw, 8kw 15kw
Its 3 phase capable
It can be connected in parallel to up to 120kva
Needs yo be programmed
⭐10/10

⚠️Hie guys sorry for the wait, today we are going to talk about the centre of the solar system, the inverter, we will talk about types of inverters, sizes, my personal favorites etc... this is going to be a long one [A thread]⚠️
First things first, guys electricity is dangerous, just because its an inverter it doesn't mean that the electricity it produces is not dangerous, please get a professional to install it for you, THE PROPER WAY... also, remember in solar, cheap is expensive!
Right, there are several types of inverters but i will talk about about 3 types
-offgrid
-hybrid
-Gridtie
All of them are there for different purposes

Hie guys I have decided that today we talk about Solar panels, i will tell you what they are, types of solar panels, trusted brands, also the does and don'ts! (A thread)
First things first i want to emphasize that the size of your panel does NOT necessarily determine which appliances your system can power!!!!! Its not proper to ask if a 330w panel ingavusa ifridge bantu🙉 . Kuzwakele angithi?
Right we all know a solar panel is a device which converts sunlight into electricity (Direct current to be exact) I will not dwell on the structure but i will tell you that currently in the market we have 2 types
-Polycrystalline
-Monocrystalline

Right before i tell u about what's in the market, I'll just teach you the basics of a solar system,

Basically a solar system converts the energy from the sun to electricity you can use at home and also utilizes batteries to store that energy so that you can use it later.
I will inform you about the 3 types of systems we commonly use in Zim. We have
1. Offgrid system
2. Hybrid system
3. Gridtie system
1. Offgrid system
This type of system is ideal emakhaya, where there's no zesa totally it consists of
-Charge controller
-Inverter
-Panels
-Battery
The panels here charge the battery n supplies inverter with power, then the inverter powers your appliances.

Since it’s #UnityDay today let me tell you guys about this one time in Junior Parliament. But this was in April, and we were attending the Children’s Independence Party in Harare. The theme was “Zimbabwe@35: Consolidating unity, peace and economic development.”

A THREAD👇🏽👇🏽
1. I was in Debate and Public Speaking so each province did a screening to select poets; public speakers, dancers etc to perform at the Children’s Party. I was selected to deliver a speech. Obviously ecstatic, sis was cramming that speech until she got to Harare.
2. Day b4 we had rehearsals. This was the final process that’ll help us know where in the program we would perform. I opened with this quote, “Pain is a woman watching her sons burn to death as others dance to the songs of Chimurenga.”George Mujajati book-The Sun Will Rose Again
