My latest column takes a deep dive into GameStop's business prospects. With a little magic from Jeff Bezos's playbook, a real turnaround is a distinct possibility. Don't count GameStop out. Really. #GameStonk $GME bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…
Lost amid the stock frenzy, GameStop announced 3 game-changing hires last week: a former engineering leader from AWS, a former Chewy customer service exec and a former fulfillment exec at Amazon/Walmart. To me, that's clear sign Ryan Cohen is now in charge bloomberg.com/opinion/articl… Image
Ryan Cohen taking the reins is a big deal. It means GameStop is drawing from a vastly better talent pool - leagues better for where it is going (e-commerce, technology) than retail staff of its past. bloomberg.com/opinion/articl… Image
Ryan Cohen may be the ONLY internet entrepreneur in the world who can say he has beaten Amazon at its own e-commerce game with online pet retailer Chewy. If you read his interviews, he sounds just like Jeff Bezos in business philosophy. It's uncanny. bloomberg.com/opinion/articl… Image
There is low-hanging fruit. GameStop should expand aggressively into the PC gaming hardware market. With Cohen's e-commerce savvy, there is no reason it can't beat Newegg & Micro Center in PC-related sales. Think Nvidia/AMD graphics cards, mice, keyboards. bloomberg.com/opinion/articl… Image
What if Ryan Cohen can score again and make GameStop into an e-commerce category leader for gaming, PC hardware and consumer electronics? A bet on GameStop is a bet on Cohen. Never underestimate the power of a truly competent and passionate entrepreneur bloomberg.com/opinion/articl… Image

Part 1 of GameStop saga was the hedge-funds getting the fundamental risk-reward analysis completely wrong. The company was solvent over near term, paying down debt, going into a new console cycle after 7 years of pent-up demand. Streaming threat (hello Stadia) was also overblown
Hedge-funds deserve a lot of the blame for the volatility, over-levering into illiquid crowded bets. Part 2 is now what can go right with Cohen driving the ship, bringing in his team and pivoting the business towards the e-commerce category killer opportunity

Starting a Clubhouse Room thread. First entry is fans of Fraggle Rock coming together with: How has Fraggle Rock changed your life? as the main question
“Dance your cares away. Worry's for another day. Let the music play. Down at Fraggle Rock.” 🎶
Victor is now leading the room in a live sing-a-long with room participation strumming his banjo. The room is pretty tone deaf, but everyone is having a grand time

A literal retail trader in a basement beat the best hedge-funds at their own game. Congrats to @JAVerlaine @GunjanJS for the getting the big @TheRoaringKitty interview wsj.com/articles/keith… Image
Keith @TheRoaringKitty comes across nicer and more wholesome than anyone would think, given his role in this story. Reality is more interesting than the conjecture
The Succession's @nicholasbraun would be good casting to play @TheRoaringKitty in the inevitable GameStop retail investors vs. hedge funds movie/TV series ImageImage

Other night the topic of how to educate this new generation of investors came up. I excitedly said we should recommend a book reading list and started spouting off some good reads. I got shouted down by nearly everyone in the room, all saying no one wants to read books anymore 😭
Anyways. Here’s some of my favorites for new investors. For basics read Understanding Wall Street by Jeffrey Little. Then all the Peter Lynch books. First two Market Wizards books (just first two!) and Buffett: Making of an American Capitalist by Roger Lowenstein (absolute fav)

My latest column: "A Breakup Plan to Save Intel and Preserve National Security." Desperate circumstances require drastic measures $INTC bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…
"growing reliance on overseas companies for chipmaking is becoming a national security issue for the U.S. Three-quarters of global semiconductor production is based in East Asia .. shortages at TSMC are forcing global automakers to cut car production.." bloomberg.com/opinion/articl… Image
"All the stakeholders need to recognize a viable, second source domestic supplier is in their interest and would prevent the ascendance of an Asian chip-manufacturing monopoly." bloomberg.com/opinion/articl… Image

My take on Intel's CEO change is up: "Intel Corp. now has a fighting chance. After a series of stumbles in recent years, the storied chip giant has found a new leader with the expertise it needs to spark a turnaround." $INTC bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…
"Gelsinger may have the perfect background .. spent 30 years at Intel ..chipmaker’s first CTO ..was the chip architect of one of Intel’s seminal processors - the 80486. If there is anyone who has intimate knowledge of the company, its technology and capabilities, it’s Gelsinger."
"technical expertise is perhaps the most important attribute for success. Shopify CEO .once noted that the only reason he’s able to know which initiatives to fund, how long projects will take .because of his training as an engineer. Swan didn’t have this ability. Gelsinger does." Image
