NEW:
Federal prosecutors in Fulton County, GA have now officially opened a criminal investigation into Trump's election fraud incl his call to SOS Raffensperger
nytimes.com/2021/02/10/us/…
2-"On Wednesday, Fani Willis, the recently elected Democratic prosecutor in Fulton County, sent a letter to numerous officials in state government, including Mr. Raffensperger, requesting that they preserve documents related to Mr. Trump’s call,
3-"according to a state official with knowledge of the letter. The letter explicitly stated that the request was part of a criminal investigation, said the official, who insisted on anonymity to discuss internal matters.
4-"The inquiry makes Georgia the second state after New York where Mr. Trump faces a criminal investigation. And it comes in a jurisdiction where potential jurors are unlikely to be hospitable to the former president;
5-"Fulton County encompasses most of Atlanta and overwhelmingly supported President Biden in the November election. The Fulton County investigation comes on the heels of a decision Monday by Mr. Raffensperger’s office to open an administrative inquiry" ~NYT
AND THIS: "Former prosecutors said Mr. Trump’s calls might run afoul of at least three state laws. One is criminal solicitation to commit election fraud, which can be either a felony or a misdemeanor; as a felony, it is punishable by at least a year in prison.
"There is also a related conspiracy charge, which can be prosecuted either as a misdemeanor or a felony. A third law, a misdemeanor offense, bars “intentional interference” with another person’s “performance of election duties.”

Playbook AM's rundown on GOP Senators during the trial yesterday: (thread)
"SPOTTED AT THE IMPEACHMENT TRIAL: Sen. JOE MANCHIN (D-W.Va.) shaking his head during a montage in which Trump told the rioters, “We love you.” …
"Sen. JOSH HAWLEY (R-Mo.) not listening in the cloakroom. … Sen. RAND PAUL (R-Ky.), the only senator who refused to wear a mask, doodling on a pad of paper during the manager presentations. …
"Rep. AL GREEN (D-Texas), who infuriated his own party by forcing votes to impeach Trump in 2017 and 2018, sitting in the gallery and taking it all in. …

Ranking [GOP] subcommittee members-including Nunes, Walorski & Smith are said to have a rash of amendments designed to slow the relief markup down at every turn

From Playbook this am:
(thread: read the whole thing!)
"As [GOP] get ready to beat back a Trump impeachment conviction for the second time, sources close to the former president say he’s already imagining his comeback.
1/
“He’s compared it to that time in between seasons of ‘The Apprentice,’ building anticipation and wonderment for what’s to come,” one adviser told us of the period between his White House exit, eventual acquittal and his second act
2/
"Other Trump advisers said he has reveled in his silence on Twitter — expressing amazement at how much coverage his few public statements have garnered. “He finally realizes less is more,” one of them said"

A bit from Playbook this am @ how some GOP are reacting to last night's Greene speech:
Thread:
"Many Republicans now plan to give Greene a chance. She received a standing ovation at the conference meeting after she disavowed many of her previous beliefs.
"She told a story about a dark point in her life when she apparently turned to QAnon, according to a person in the room. She said that was a mistake, walked back suggestions that 9/11 & school shootings were a hoax & apologized for how her past statements were affecting them all.
"After she spoke, even Rep. TOM REED (R-N.Y.), a leader of moderate Republicans, stood up to thank her for sharing her story and indicated he’d give her a chance.

From Playbook am @ what happened in the McCarthy/Marjorie Taylor Greene mtg last night (sounds like Greene told McCarthy she won't cooperate)
Thread:
"During a two-hour meeting Tuesday night with Greene, McCarthy explained to the QAnon supporter that her
"controversial past statements were coming to a head. The problem, McCarthy told her: Democrats are threatening to force a vote to remove her from her committees — and that puts the entire GOP Conference in a bad spot. McCarthy tried to give Greene options,
"according to a person familiar with their talk: She could denounce QAnon and apologize publicly for espousing hurtful conspiracy theories and endorsing violence on Democrats. She could remove herself from the panel to spare her colleagues a vote on the matter.

Re the Sunday night GOP Senate/Biden meeting:
Interesting from a source in Klain's ofc:
"The president was polite, but every time he spoke on substantive matters he was telling GOP why they were wrong..his politeness shouldn't be confused [by GOP] for a lack of conviction.
1/
"He explained why they were wrong @ schools, @ helping middle class families, @ check size & @ leaving out state & local $. At the end of the meeting he said to them we are very far apart & I haven't heard anything tonight that suggests we are moving in the same direction"
//
Another WH aide:
"GOP came to the meeting in good faith, but it appears they'd rather play the blame game than have a substantive conversation..
