Now: Rep. Ted Lieu outlines President Trump’s remaining efforts to overturn the election prior to January 6.
“I’ll show you how we got here. President Donald J. Trump ran out of non-violent options to maintain power."
"President Trump wasn’t just coming for one person, or two, or democrats like me...He was coming for all of us—just as the mob did as his direction."
"President Trump’s actions, time and time again, made clear that he would do anything and pressure anyone if it meant overturning the election results."
“We watched President Trump use any means necessary to pursue this aim, feverishly grasping at straws to retain his hold on the Presidency. But all his efforts prior to January 6 kept failing."
"I began today by raising the question of how we got here—what you saw was a man so desperate to cling to power that he tried everything he could to keep it.  And when he ran out of non-violent measures, he turned to the violent mob attacked your senate chamber on January 6."
"As you cast your vote, I hope each of you will think of the bravery of all these people who said no to Trump because they believed that this was not right, that this is not America."

Americans shouldn't need a celebrity advocating on their behalf to get a pardon from the president. Under Trump, thousands of petitions are ignored while those with special access to the president are granted clemency.
In February, Trump granted clemency to 11 people, including several individuals who had been convicted on charges related to political corruption, like former Celebrity Apprentice contestant Rod Blagojevich.
Presidential pardons and commutations should not be viewed as an occasionally act of forgiveness but treated as a routine part of the federal criminal justice system to remedy injustice and provide mercy.

THREAD: Congress has 2 grave powers: the power to declare war & the power to impeach. #Impeachment should never be the first option for Congress. It comes with huge institutional & political implications for our country. It requires careful consideration & strong evidence. (1/6)
We have not hidden our frustration with many of Trump’s obstructive & corrupt actions. That’s why we supported @HouseJudiciary impeachment investigation from the beginning. (2/6)
@HouseJudiciary Grateful for @SpeakerPelosi's leadership in broadening the inquiry to include other committees’ investigative efforts. Congress now has a duty to examine Trump’s efforts to pressure Ukraine to investigate his political opponent. (3/6)

Congress has been investigating matters related to abuse of power since it was founded. To question this authority, as the president has done so vigorously, is to challenge one of the foundational principles of our democracy: checks and balances.

usatoday.com/story/opinion/…
If Trump can shirk laws that don’t suit him, then our country has no guardrails to keep us safe. Congress has a constitutional duty to ensure that Executive Branch officials are not able to wield their power with absolute impunity.

Sen. Graham once said of impeaching Nixon: “the day Richard Nixon failed to answer that subpoena is the day that he was subject to impeachment because he took the power from Congress over the impeachment process and he became the judge and jury.”

Trump is declaring a #NationalEmergency to build a wall we don’t need to address a crisis that doesn’t exist! It's time for @POTUS to face the facts on this episode of #TruthWithTed.
Trump's proposed Declaration of a National Emergency is an authoritarian power grab that will be struck down in the courts. The Constitution gives the House the ‘Power of the Purse’, and Trump cannot override the Constitution with a fake declaration.
There is no #NationalEmergency. Based on the Trump Administration's own data:

⬇️ Border Apprehensions: Down 75% from 2000 to 2018
⬇️ Violent & Property Crime: Down across the U.S.
✅ 80% to 90% of illegal drugs come through legal checkpoints

BREAKING: New @OversightDems report shows how Californians could be impacted by the Trump Administration’s unwillingness to defend people with pre-existing conditions.

SPOILER ALERT: It’s terrible news for A LOT of Californians. More on the report here: bit.ly/2ynhL4v.
In California, if the Trump Administration is successful in its attempts to roll back Affordable Care Act protections, as many as 1,321,000 people could lose federal protections against coverage denials or premium increases, including as many as 78,000 people in #CA33 alone.
If President Trump and Republicans succeed in rolling back pre-existing condition protections, 50,000 #CA33 constituents with pre-existing health conditions are at risk of coverage loss or premium increases. #ProtectOurCare

.@POTUS’s expectations haven’t often met reality during his first 500 days in office. The #GOPTaxScam is a prime example of why his presidency has been #500DaysOfBummer
President Trump has spent 1/5 of his days in office at a golf course. That's probably great for his stroke, but not so great for the American public. #500DaysOfBummer
Who is paying for the wall?

Mexico? 🙅‍♀️

American taxpayers? 🙅‍♀️

The U.S. Military? 🙅‍♀️
