.@RISenate voting now on a $15 #MinimumWage in Rhode Island. @UpriseRI
Senator Picard offers an amendment to delay the implementation of the first wage increases under the $15 min wage bill three months, from October to January. @UpriseRI
Senator Bell argues against watering down the bill, says people urgently need this now.
Senator Lombardi of Cranston is justifying his opposition to the bill because of the pandemic.
Senator Lombardi wants to block the $15 min wage because it will hurt businesses. (Note: There is no economic evidence that this is true.)
Senator Goldin says that the more money people have, the stronger the economy is. Says a delay puts us at a competitive disadvantage with neighboring states. @UpriseRI
Remember: Every day the minimum wage stays low, people have less money.
Senator Felag supports delaying increase in min wage.
Senator Mack opposes delay. Notes that small businesses are getting federal aid. Says women of color need this increase. @UpriseRI
Amendment passes. $15 dollar minimum wage will be delayed by at least three months. @UpriseRI
Senator Calkin is speaking. She was the first to introduce this legislation in 2017. She introduces an amendment to raise the tipped minimum wage. @UpriseRI
Senator McCaffrey is rising to say that that tipped min wage is not germane to the $15 min wage. Senate approves this objection. @UpriseRI
Senator Calkin rises with an amendment mandating hazard pay. Senator McCaffrey rises to say it’s also not germane. Senate agrees again. So much for tipped workers. So much for hazard pay. @UpriseRI
Crafty use of Senate rules to screw over workers by Senate leaders. @UpriseRI
Senator de la Cruz rises in opposition to a $15 min wage. She earlier said that our schools are failing poor kids and families. Now it’s her turn to fail poor kids and families. @UpriseRI
Senator de la Cruz like Senator Lombardi earlier, quote from NFIB testimony. This testimony is unscientific garbage and nothing but right wing talking points. @UpriseRI
Senator Mendes rises to say it’s not lost on her that the Senate is eating cake in the lobby. @UpriseRI
Who supplied that cake?
Poverty is man made. Poverty is a system says Senator Mack. Better paid workers don’t use as many public services she adds. @UpriseRI
Senator de la Cruz is repeating the lie that the min wage was never intended to be a living wage. @UpriseRI
Senator Mendes rising to say that we care about money more than families. @UpriseRI
Senator Mendes rising to say that denying min wage is a living wage then say what you mean: it’s a poverty wage. @UpriseRI
Senator Mack is back. Actual economists agree: everyone benefits when we raise the minimum wage. @UpriseRI
Senator Paolino rises to say he think one in 13 jobs will be lost from a minimum wage increase and says automation will increase. Right wing lies. @UpriseRI
Senator Calkin says we are already losing min wage jobs, to Mass and Conn, where the min wage is higher. @UpriseRI
Looks like the path to a $15 min wage has been passed in Senate. Now onto the House. @UpriseRI
Here's the kind of testimony NFIB presents:

In August 2017, @GovRaimondo replaced the three "outspoken environmentalists" on @RI_CRMC with three new members, including current chair Jennifer Cervenka.

As reported by @ecoRI_Tim, “changes on the council are typically announced closer to January, when the General Assembly begins its session,” according to former-Chair Livingston.

@UpriseRI
Why the sudden replacement? @GovRaimondo's office declined comment to both @EcoRI & @UpriseRI. But there is every reason to believe that these replacements were made to ease the way for @nationalgridus's liquefaction (LNG) facility.
