Introducing the book, @sarasiobhan spoke of the "treadmill of fear and terror" with relatives "struggling to understand what to do for the best" as they try to advocate for their family members rights and are met with non-responses from 'care' organisations #HeDiedWaiting
We heard of the guilt that family members feel because of this. Feeling that they were whispering when they "should have been shouting". But, the power imbalance and the fear that you might make things worse, can make shouting feel impossible #HeDiedWaiting
I am lucky that the things I have to shout about for my family members are not life-threatening. But, I too have been scared to shout. And now I am shouting again, it is all too easy for 'professionals' to ignore #HeDiedWaiting
It is so important for people working in health and social care to realise that "we shout because we are scared." We shout because people are not listening. We shout because we know what might happen #HeDiedWaiting
#MyPledgeForTim is to continue to shout. I pledge to use all my power to push for change, whether that be through academia, activism or other means. And I pledge to always listen to those who are at the receiving end of this 'care' system #HeDiedWaiting
