JUST IN: Former President Trump releases statement following acquittal on article of impeachment for "incitement of insurrection."
Republican Sen. Burr on vote to convict former President Trump:

“By what he did and by what he did not do, President Trump violated his oath of office to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."
Republican Sen. Cassidy on vote to convict President Trump:

"Our Constitution and our country is more important than any one person. I voted to convict President Trump because he is guilty."
Sen. Thune on vote:

"My vote to acquit should not be viewed as exoneration for his conduct on Jan. 6, 2021, or in the days and weeks leading up to it. What former President Trump did to undermine faith in our election system ... is inexcusable ... But he is no longer president."
Republican Sen. Toomey on vote to convict:

“I was one of the 74 million Americans who voted for Pres. Trump, in part because of the many accomplishments of his administration. Unfortunately, his behavior after the election betrayed the confidence millions of us placed in him."
Speaker Pelosi statement on Trump acquittal:
Republican Sen. Portman on vote to acquit former President Trump:

"The Constitution makes clear that former presidents are subject to the criminal justice system. That is where the issues raised by the president’s inexcusable actions and words must be addressed."

Food banks are struggling to feed the hungry during the pandemic, swamped with millions of Americans newly facing food insecurity and those receiving government assistance that doesn't get them through the month. #NBCNewsThreads (1/9) nbcnews.to/3cUVkbS
"We have always been there since 2009, assisting the community," said Kinda Makini-Anderson, from Detroit’s Inner City Youth Group. "But since the pandemic it's been an overload.”

She estimates the nonprofit has provided over 150,000 meals in the last 10 months. (2/9)
Makini-Anderson said 98% of the households she serves are already getting Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits — formerly known as food stamps.

But the benefits provided by the nation's program for the hungry are simply not enough. (3/9)
