San Diego Police illegally detained and searched two different people yesterday in Pacific Beach. This person was providing mutual aid, and was initially cuffed w/o explanation. Near the end of this video you can hear them say he is detained for a "criminal investigation".
After putting him in the car to do whatever they're doing, the Sergeant tells people that he's under "investigation" but nothing further. These are the exact same tactics that gang units use.
They seriously just searched his stuff and let him go. This is a very serious violation of his rights, and police are using intimidation to surveil and harass people. All for someone helping out the unsheltered.
As this is being typed I just saw @R_C_SanDiego point out that at around 1:05 in the previous video, a cop creepily goes up behind a person cop-watching/video recording, and places their body an inch away to intimidate and harass them.
This other person was illegally detained while cop-watching. You can hear an officer say "you look like someone from a previous case, you need to identify yourself". They photographed people and illegally collected evidence, then released them.
What's wild is that this entire time, a "Recall Newsom"/Trump 2024 booth was just a few hundred feet down the boardwalk where people were seen yelling and harassing people just enjoying their day.
Want to know what else is crazy? One of the people responsible for attacking activists in a Pacific Beach alley on 1/9/2021 was also in Pacific Beach yesterday at the booth. San Diego Police didn't care or detain him for a "criminal investigation".
Yesterday, San Diego Police were also extremely aggressive and threatened people who were providing mutual aid at a completely different part of the city.
Saivaauli Aigaleseese Savaiinaea, known as “Coach SA”, has reportedly been arrested for felony child abuse for fighting kids in Imperial Beach yesterday.
He had previously been arrested in 2011 for assaulting another coach, but the DA declined to press charges.
