Erasmus Mundus Master's Degree Scholarship-Interview Tips (PART A): Received an invite for an interview? Congratulations!! You’ve just crossed the first hurdle. It’s now left for you to prove your mettle and match up with or exceed whatever impressed

them concerning your application.
A) Timing: You might be given options to select a time. Please, choose a slot that’s most convenient for you. It's okay to reschedule if you've been given an inconvenient time slot. They want you as much as you want to get in. 2/n
Also, check the time zone difference so you don’t miss your interview.
B) Internet: You might have the option to choose between a video or telephone interview. If the former is going to be affected by internet or you want to minimize costs as much as possible,
13/n
please select the latter. It makes no difference in your performance. However, if you wish to connect and have that in-person interview feel, ensure you get a good internet connection. For this, give them your phone number as an alternative in case the internet goes bonkers!
4/n
C) Dressing: If it isn’t specified, just wear simple/appropriate. You don’t need to kit up with all that tie and suit. I heard the weather is quite hot at home right now, so you should wear comfortable clothing.

Main Tips
1) Introduce yourself: Basically, your academic background, a bit of your experience and conclude it with the reason for seeking an MSc degree (which is what led to the interview). Briefly state it, because you’ll talk more about it during the convo.
6/n
2) Why did you choose the program? This is basically your motivation letter. They just need you to elaborate more on those points you listed in your SOP. Be very specific as regards what you find fascinating about that program. Also, link your background with the general
7/n
domain where the program belongs. e.g., SINREM (sustainability), IDOH (One Health concept), LIVE (vaccines & the current COVID pandemic), GLOBED (Education for all), MITRA (immigration)
3) What do you know about us? This is the program objectives & outcomes (summarize)
8/n
the structure & mobility, the internship/research component it offers, and the type of career path you can pursue if you join the program.
4) Can you relate your undergrad program to the master’s program? This should be straightforward especially if your program is
9/n
directly related. If not, mention some course modules you’ve taken and how they will be relevant in the master’s program. If the program is interdisciplinary, state how your bachelors fit into the program’s framework. e.g how a Bsc in Mathematics fits into the Erasmus
10/n
program Language & Communication Technologies (LCT).
5) Why should you be chosen for this program?
Advertise your skills and give them your selling points.
6) What are your goals immediately after the program and long-term goals?
11/n
Short-term: Maybe a PhD within the framework of the program. If you know the academic partners, state that you’ve looked them up on the internet and you see yourself doing a PhD with them upon graduation. If it’s a job in Nigeria/Europe (multinationals), please state it.
12/n
You can let them know that you’ve done some market search and you see yourself staying and working in Europe. Don’t be scared. It’s allowed. This is not Chevening or Commonwealth. However, if you have done “LORI IRO / ALL LIE LIE” in your SOP, better don’t say the contrary
13/n
because your SOP would be right in front of them. Only mention feasible goals !. Don’t overshoot it, else, the interviewer might respond “LORI IRO”! 😜🤪 14/n
Irrespective of the constraints, writing IELTS/TOEFL to prove your English proficiency allows you to apply to scholarships all over the world and not selected few. If you don’t have this test, you realize that you’ll have to sift through lots of program to find
waivers which is stressful already. There are also positions that you stumble upon when surfing the internet but “sigh” when you see english test requirements. For example, these tests helps you in getting TAship in USA. Furthermore, countries like Canada require IELTS for
NSE fast-track student visa application route. Likewise Ireland requires it for student visa app. If you are really serious about applications, save up and write these tests. They’ll make your life easier.
Notable Red Flags between your SOP and Reference letters
1) The experiences you claim in your SOP are not reflecting or mentioned in some way within your Reference letter
2) Mismatch of the key details between what you claim in your SOP and what your referee states e.g.
CGPA, class ranking, number of publications, and the timeline of events (if required).
3) Making claims of your research/work experience under a Prof. or a research institute without having such a professor or a representative of that institute on your list of referees.
There is an exception to this, especially If you've been working in an organization and the program requests only academic references.
4) Mismatch between the name of the program being applied to. E.g. You're applying for a program in the US and Hongkong and your referee makes
Msc position at Université Laval, Canada-Utilization of Bryophytes for the restoration of Mining sites. Start date from now or Summer 2021. $15kpa for 2 years + $1.5k top up
Bryophytes play a critical role in the biogeochemical cycles and productivity of ecosystems, particularly in northern ecosystems. However, they are largely ignored in restoration work on disturbed sites in the boreal environment. This project aims to overcome this lack and
develop methods to integrate bryophytes into resilient ecological restoration. More specifically, the bryophytes associated with vascular species of interest for the ecological restoration of mining sites will be identified, as well as the characteristics of their immediate
Msc position at Université Laval, Canada- Peatland restoration in the context of a cranberry plantation. Start date: May 2021. Send in your applications if qualified.
In recent decades, cranberry cultivation has exploded in Quebec, to the point where the province has become the second largest producer of this small fruit in the world. The crops are established on peat with sand amendment or directly on sand. In Quebec, more than 60% of crops
are on sand, while the rest is in peatland. Peatlands represent the main type of wetland disturbed by cranberry cultivation followed, to a lesser extent, by swamps. An ecological restoration method, that of musk mat transfer, has been shown to be effective in restoring plant
Msc position in Plant Biology at Université Laval, Canada. Closure of the abandoned logging roads to improve habitat of Caribou. Autumn 2021 or Winter 2022 start.
The woodland caribou herd in Parc des Grands-Jardins has only a few dozen individuals left. The presence of forest roads favors the movement of predators and creates pressure on the species. Despite
the absence of forest harvest since the creation of the Parc des Grands-
Jardins in 1981, a few hundred kilometers of paths still present, 40 years later, an absence or insufficient tree regeneration. The goal of this project is to evaluate various methods in order to initiate the closure of the forest cover in the abandoned roads at Parc des Grands
