One perk of being a US puppet (besides tons of stolen cash) is the hagiographic portrayal by the corporate media. Case in point: the NYT's recent piece about self-proclaimed @jguaido. But even the paper of record sees the writing on the wall (long thread) nytimes.com/2021/02/13/wor…
The NYT wants you to shed a tear for all these disgraceful US puppets and the "toll" they've suffered just for trying to overthrow the elected government. How dare the gov't threat to arrest people who did nothing more than call for a military coup or a foreign invasion?
Still, for all the Times' effort to portray this buffoon as a misunderstood hero, there's no hiding that nobody takes him seriously anymore. The report mentions opposition leaders who already call the pretend gov't for the joke it is, others who want to take part in elections
Internationally things have gotten harder as well for Venezuela's most prominent infomercial host. The usually pliant EU has decided this circus has become a bit much, and even US-aligned LatAm governments no longer refer to the made up "interim presidency"
And now some imperialist stenography translated:
"a slender young man in a tie wages an increasingly lonely battle against the country’s authoritarian government" means "US puppet nobody had heard of has pathetically failed in his coup attempt against the elected gov't"
More corporate media stenography translated:
"Mr. Guaidó declared himself the interim head of state, drawing an outpouring of support from Venezuelans". Well, there were sizable crowds, but they never made it out of the opposition middle-class strongholds in east Caracas.
"nation that was once a prosperous democracy" = "nation that was a paradise for US corporations"
"the votes fall short of being free and fair" = "US-backed parties refused to run, cry 'fraud', present no evidence"
"[Guaidó's] decision to extend his time in office using arcane legal arguments is supported by the US". They're not "arcane," they're some made up nonsense. But because Guaidó can count on the likes of the NYT whitewashing everything, it gets reported as something serious
"American sanctions [...] have gutted gov't revenues but also forced citizens to focus on daily survival, not political mobilization"
Kudos to the NYT for making it seem like sanctions affecting Vzlans is an accident, and that if not for that everyone would be cheering for Guaidó
"Mr. Guaidó’s team is now trying to help the country pay for coronavirus vaccines."
Actually no, this is false. Not only are they not helping, US lackeys have stopped frozen funds from being used to buy vaccines. See: venezuelanalysis.com/news/15097
Still, this dishonesty and going to extraordinary lengths to paint a disgraceful figure in a positive light are no surprise from the NYTimes. But they are another reminder of the role of independent outlets like VA. To support us visit: venezuelanalysis.com/donate

As the Bolivian people celebrate their historic victory over US imperialism and its lackeys, we will not forget the Western “left” media outlets and intellectuals who helped pave the way for the November 10, 2019 coup and subsequently legitimized it. fair.org/home/how-the-g…
Nor will we forget the role these “progressive” platforms continue to play in amplifying corporate media propaganda rationalizing the murderous US assault on Venezuela. venezuelanalysis.com/analysis/14788
