The Myth of Jason and Medea as incarnations of the Mars Ruled Signs, Aries and Scorpio.
[A THREAD]
As a planet, Mars has two distinct functions. How we finish and start tasks, and how we get what we want as an individual.
This thread concerns the pushier, more driven aspect of Mars, not the productive side of Mars.
They are hereby symbolized by Aries and Scorpio. A direct, impulsive Mars, and a tricky, cunning, quiet Mars.
I can't say that the non rulership Mars will fit into the aggressive Aries or cunning Scorpio mould solely because they are a Nocturnal Sign (Earth or Water signs) or Diurnal Sign (Fire and Air signs), but knowing that they're Nocturnal/Diurnal certainly helps
Jason is the Ariean. In the myths, Jason fights, he encourages, he pushes people to get what he wants. He has a point to prove
He's a warrior, ready to take on anything that is thrown his way. Impulsive, aggressive, and brave.
He is one of the greatest heroes of Greek Myth
Jason is fiery, never afraid to back down from a fight. He is always ready to take on a full argument, a king, and a bunch of skeleton warriors while being chased down by a Metallic bull to get what he wants.
Medea is the Scorpio archetype. In the myths, Medea speaks with her silver tongue, enchanting, tricking, using her guile, intelligence, and allure to get what she wants.
If Jason, the Ariean fights and initiates, Medea, the Scorpio archetype tricks, and manipulates instead
Medea is cold, ruthless, yet charismatic and charming.
Her mystery, allure, and magic, is something to be afraid of. She knows how to cast her spell, create illusions, twist reality in her favour. She will still do whatever it takes to get what she wants, no matter the challenge
Each Mars sign must correspond to either archetype.
Is your Mars the Blazing, Brave, Warrior in Jason?
Or is your Mars the Cold Hearted, Cunning, Enchantress in Medea?
Nevermind the sign... house placement and aspects can differ your Mars expression
When we look at the myth of Jason and the Golden Fleece, both archetypes are visible, and intertwine with each other, showing a great deal between how both archetypes interact.
In the myth of Argo, Jason created a quest, anyone who wants to join his band of heroes, are allowed. Jason pushes forward. He didn't offer anything in return, but he managed to incite a band of heroes in his quest for glory.
Some of the heroes here are legends, Orpheus, Hercules, Asclepius, you name it, they joined Jason's quest!
In fact, if you look beyond this, the Ariean Mars archetype goes even deeper. Jason was incited to an impulsive promise, to an impossible quest, in order to win a kingdom's and win back his family's honour, something that has no concrete benefit.
Jason commited to his impulse, and is easy to anger. He commited himself into a fight, into an unlikely quest, and he will finish it, even if it meant dying in the process.
Medea, on the other hand, was struck by a love spell. She saw the beauty of Jason, and was drawn to him. She wants Jason to be hers, she wants to be Jason's possession, and was obsessed with him. She then decides to help his new love, for something in return.
Looking at this from a deep view, Medea isn't as easy to incite as Jason, but she can be drawn to her own impulses too.
She has something concrete to offer, she is willing to belong to Jason, forever and ever. Her consistency admired, and her commitment, infinite.
When enraged, however, Medea behaves differently.
She's calmer, but will be more cruel than Jason...
Both are ruthless, like the Mars archetype.
Both are brave, like the Mars archetype.
But most importantly, both are drawn to their temptations, like the Mars archetype.
We see this ruthlessness when Medea was cornered, she was cruel enough to kill her own brother in order to get the freedom and change she wants.
We see this ruthlessness when Jason was ordered to fight the Colchis Bull, to fight an undead skeleton army
We see this bravery when Medea fought and disobeyed her father, her norms, tradition, to push for change
We see this bravery when Jason was oppressed by a local king, by his uncle, claiming what is rightfully his
But in the end, they both underwent the same downfall like any Mars archetype.
Temptation.
Jason was tempted by a young lady, and he was also promised a role as a general because of this young lady, and his hunger for power made him cheat Medea, someone who he dearly promised to be loyal too.
Medea, was tempted by her own fantasies of Jason. She longed for freedom, and she was willing to do whatever in order to achieve that. It was spiralling downhill, from fantasy to a nightmare from there...
Both archetypes get tempted.
Aries hungers even though they have enough. Unstoppable
Scorpio hungers when they see something they want, becoming obsessive
Your Mars, powerful as it may be, needs control. needs to be bound and utilized. Hunger and temptation is a downfall
