Our Town Lake shelter was unfortunately affected by the widespread power outages this morning. We had some staff on site overnight and in nearby hotels ahead of the snow, who have been working hard to keep our animals on campus warm since we lost power at about 1:30a.m.
Getting our generators grounded has proven difficult with conditions so we are looking for anyone willing to donate generators which don’t require grounding. Please email cold@austinpetsalive.org if you can help.
We’re also monitoring cold@austinpetsalive.org for those who need help with animals in the cold. Supplies donated to help animals in the cold are available outside our Town Lake shelter for those who can get there safely and need them but our transport services are limited.
And as staff focus on generator set up and animal care, all nonessential services and appointments will be cancelled today.
We are continuing our emergency response plan we enacted on Thursday — making our shelter as warm as possible via generators, decreasing the numbers of animals onsite, & triaging urgent situations in our community as well as shelters across Texas.
Since 1:30- a.m. yesterday morning, we have been without power at our Town Lake shelter, and we are unsure when it will return. On top of the power outage, yesterday afternoon a pipe burst near the cattery.
Thanks to six generous community members who braved the snow and ice to bring generators to our shelter, we were able to restore power. Our animals and onsite staff are safe, but now there is no running water.
