BREAKING: Nearly 40% of Austin Energy homes are still without power Monday after attempted "rolling blackouts" ordered by Texas power grid operators were not successfully executed 1/ atxne.ws/37io5M2
"...we maxed out on all of the available circuits that we had to disconnect. So because we're at at max limit, there's no more energy that we can shut off at this time to bring these customers back on," @austinenergy said during a press conference 2/ atxne.ws/37io5M2
Some 200,000 Austin Energy customers are still without power in the city 3/ atxne.ws/37io5M2
@austinenergy If you currently have power, Austin Energy says it should remain on.
If your power has not gone out, you likely live near what is considered a critical operation (e.g. hospitals, fire stations, control centers and water treatment facilities) 4/ atxne.ws/37io5M2
@austinenergy@tplohetski As grid operators work to restore power, it remains crucial that those currently with power work to reduce their energy consumption.
BREAKING: ERCOT is asking Austin Energy to shed even more power amid mass outages 1/ atxne.ws/3dhLKA3
Local officials warn doing so could mean pulling the plug on circuits used to power critical infrastructure such as hospitals and emergency response stations 2/ atxne.ws/3dhLKA3
BREAKING: Nearly half of Texas' wind power generation capacity has been offline because of frozen wind turbines in West Texas, grid operators report 1/ atxne.ws/37gdNMh
Typically wind farms across the state generate up to a combined 25,100 megawatts of energy.
Fortunately, the storm's gusty winds are spinning the state's unfrozen coastal turbines at a higher rate than normal, helping to offset some of the power loss 2/ atxne.ws/37gdNMh
In Austin, wind power supplies roughly 19% of the city's energy demands, @brand4on reports.
The frozen turbines come as low temperatures strain the state's power grid and force operators to call for immediate statewide conservation efforts 3/ atxne.ws/37gdNMh
H-E-B locations across Texas will close early in coming days amid the uncharacteristically severe winter weather hitting the state.
The news comes as reports of long lines, crowded stores and empty shelves abound on Twitter 1/ atxne.ws/3d5K906
In Austin and Central Texas stores will open at 6 a.m. tomorrow and close at 7 p.m.. On Monday, stores will open at 9 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
You can view a full list of hours and locations, here: atxne.ws/3d5K906 2/
If the reduced hours have you considering a curbside or delivery order, those might also be more difficult to come by in the next few days 3/ atxne.ws/3d5K906
.@statesman spent last night and today covering developments surrounding a hostage situation during which local pediatrician Dr. Lindley Dodson was shot and killed.
Here's what we know:
1) Dr. Bharat Narumanchi, who was also found dead at the scene, has been identified as the gunman.
2) Narumanchi had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer and given weeks to live.
3) Dodson was a beloved community member, and many have mourned her death on social media.
Emails obtained exclusively by @statesman capture the outrage felt by Austin residents over @MayorAdler's mid-pandemic trip to Cabo 1/ atxne.ws/2KhPC7V
@MayorAdler Included in the nearly 300 emails, were notes from brides-to-be who had postponed weddings and from people who said they had missed funerals and births because they were afraid of catching and spreading the deadly virus 2/ atxne.ws/2KhPC7V
@MayorAdler A woman who said she was approaching 70 told the mayor that she had been deprived of social interaction during the pandemic "and your actions have made me feel even worse" 3/ atxne.ws/2KhPC7V
