I don't mean to be hyperbolic, but to all my friends outside of Texas: we are in a state of emergency due to this cold weather that will likely result in many deaths and our government has barely moved an inch to provide shelter for people who have gone 24 hours without power.
Over one million people are still without electricity across the state and are facing frigid temperatures inside their homes.

The city of Dallas has a population of 1.3 million.

The city has opened exactly one warming center.

We need an investigation into why these "rolling" outages haven't been rolling into rich enclaves like Highland Park and Preston Hollow or into Downtown Dallas commercial buildings while other parts of the city have remained without power for the entire day.

I'm walking through the Highland Park and University Park area. Some promising candidates for emergency warming centers.

Pretty interesting that Highland Park, one of the top ten wealthiest communities in the country, seems to be unaffected by the outages. As are other wealthy areas around White Rock Lake.

I assume this isn't random.

Noticed an unfamiliar "newspaper" recently pop up out of nowhere in Dallas.

It's called the Dallas Express.

I was immediately struck by suspicion, which proved to be well founded upon a little research.

(1/1)
The current iteration Dallas Express was started in 2021. It is using the same name as a historic but now defunct Black newspaper. This struck me as strange. So I looked into who the publisher is.

(2/1)
The publisher of the Dallas Express, Monty Bennett, is an extremely wealthy Republican donor who spent hundreds of thousands to influence a water pipeline proposal in Tarrant county. His companies received more PPP funds than any other company.

This man just tried to antagonize the crowd, nearly hit someone, got out of his car with a gun in his hand #dallasprotests

Volunteer security is now angry w/ the protesters for not listening to the organizers

"DONT TOUCH A CAR. DO NOT GET IN FRONT OF US. THEY DONT TRUST US."
If anyone would like to run a plate check on this guy, that would be great
To be clear, he tried to run over a protester who then got out of the way and kicked his car door in the process. he chose to escalate the situation by pulling out a gun after the protester moved away from the car.
