🚨IMPORTANT AUSTIN WATER UPDATE: Austin Water is issuing a Boil Water Notice to customers in southwest Austin and Lost Creek today. The boil water notice is required because water pressure dropped below minimum levels in the water distribution system. 1/x
Austin Water’s treatment plants are functioning normally. Even so, water use has far exceeded typical water usage and exceeded water production by 250 percent over the past 24 hours. 2/x
Water pressure and water storage have significantly dropped throughout Austin Water’s service area in the past day. 3/x
The combination of burst pipes at homes or businesses, Austin Water system water main breaks, and increased customer demand from dripping faucets or storing extra water are creating extraordinary high-water demand. 4/x
While the boil water notice is currently in one area, this is a systemwide issue that demands action across the city. We are calling on all Austin Water customers to take action to conserve water immediately. 5/x
To avoid additional impacts to water service, such as a citywide boil water notice, impacts to fire protection, or widespread lack of water service, Austin Water is immediately requiring mandatory conservation measures. 6/x
These concerns in our water distribution system could have a citywide impact and are not limited to any certain Council district. 7/x
TLDR: Here is the press release from Austin Water #atxwx #atxcouncil

Weather/power update: Austin Energy is currently responding to two emergency events: AE continues responding to ERCOT's needs for the electric grid, and now we are seeing the effects of a severe ice storm. #atxwx 1/x
The ice storm is causing vegetation to fall and causing damage to equipment that is affecting customers, including some customers who had been restored overnight and some who had not previously been impacted. 2/x
We are hearing a lot of concern and speculation about hospitals, but all hospitals and other Tier 1 critical loads are currently energized. Please continue to urge conservation, as ERCOT operating reserves are extremely low & additional calls for load shedding are occurring. 3/x
