Freelancing is a game. You can play to win. Or you can just play. Either way is fine, but, to me at least, winning is more fun and profitable. And one of the best parts is that your win isn’t someone else’s loss; we can all win it together.
Freelancing is a lucrative way to work independently and achieve financial stability during uncertain economic times. So what are you waiting for? Start networking, market your skills, and build an income stream that will turn your freelancing efforts into a profitable business
Top Freelance Marketplace!
1. Upwork
Upwork.com is a global freelance platform for freelancers, where service client and freelancers connect and collaborate remotely.
After receiving job applications, the client discusses the specifics of the project with the chosen freelancer. If the client is impressed by the freelancer in terms of consistency, dedication, feedback, timing, price and experience, he/she will hire you for this job.
Quality of work and professionalism between the client and the freelancer are crucial to successful outcomes. If clients want to build a 5 page website, logo, a price would be set at a price and freelancers can place bids. It could be fixed price or an hourly job.
You're struggling with landing gigs on Upwork, read this blogpost!
2. Fiverr Fiverr.com is an online freelance marketplace where gigs can be offered. On Fiverr, you can recruit a freelancer and also you can work as freelancer. You just need a few minutes to set up your Fiverr account, so you can start posting your gigs.
Simply put, gigs are like offerings. You can post a gig that says 'I'll write an essay at $5 cost for you' or something like 'I can edit a video for you at $10 cost .' What you're doing when you post a gig is that you're making an offer to do offer a service.
Here's a tweet of my mentee that mad over one million on Fiverr in January! Freelancing works!
Freelancer is an online job market that provides a means for clients and freelancers around the globe to work together for mutual benefit.
Individuals or businesses in need of qualified assistance for short-term or long-term projects may post such projects and allow freelancers to submit bids for completion of work. Clients examines the bids and samples posted to determine the most qualified freelancer.
4. 99Designs.com
This freelance website focuses on designer work – everything from logos to book covers. It also helps clients to launch a competition that anyone in 99Designs will participate in.
5. PeoplePerHour
It's a platform that connects small businesses and freelancers around the world in a trusted environment where they buy and sell services to each other. It is a high-quality freelance website where you can make a lot of money by offering your skill as a service.
Setting Up Your Profile:
When you set up your profile on all these platforms, I recommended that you focused on 1-2 skills and I still hold to that statement.
Yet over time and as you practice your craft, you will want to look for a niche within the freelance market that you can fill and become the best at.
Early on in my Upwork career, I was a "Blog Article Writer'. Eventually I "nichified" into copywriting. The idea is to start, you will find your interest later on.
Don't niche too early but when you do choose your niche base it on where these three criteria meet:
What you like to do
Where there is a demand in the market
Where you can realistic be one of the top five in your specific niche
There's no limit to how much you can earn as a freelancer. Here's a student of mine that landed a $1450 gig on Upwork.

When i started out freelancing, I took a long hard look discovered there was one MASSIVE problem: The majority of my income was coming from only few clients. And when I say the majority, I’m talking about a revenue concentration of over 80%.
Now that’s a precarious predicament. You only have to lose few client to watch your income take a huge hit. However, the good news is that you can protect yourself from these situations rearing their ugly heads by marketing yourself constantly to diversify your client base.
