Thread: Some of you may remember this :
“No prime minister, no government can expect to be unanswerable or unchallenged. Parliament alone is sovereign.” (Gina Miller following her successful court challenge to UKGovt).
The same principles apply to the Scottish Parliament >> 2/9
2/9 >>> There are 129 MSPs in the Scottish Parliament, all from various Parties, and all voted in by the people of Scotland. Only 61 are SNP and form a minority ‘government’. Similar to the UK Parliament, the purpose of Scottish Parliament is to represent ALL the people >>> 3/9
3/9 >> people of Scotland, irrespective of who you vote for, and to hold ScotGov to account. When Parliament votes against (defeats) the ScotGov on any issue, then that vote should be respected. There have now been two Parliamentary votes directing that SNP >>> 4/9
4/9 >>> that SNP (minority ScotGov) should release legal documents, which were both ignored by ScotGov, forcing Parliament to take the unprecedented step of using S23 of Scotland Act 1998 to force the Crown Office to release the documents. Despite this, SNP have >>> 5/9
5/9 >> continued to block release, and it was only following legal intervention by The Spectator that the matter was subsequently referred to the x-Party Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body, who ruled the documents could be published. The SNP have continued to show >>> 6/9
6/9 >> to show outright contempt of Parliament, and democratic principles within Scotland. This week, a further Parliamentary vote demanded SNP release the draft OECD report on Scottish Education, a draft that SNP appear desperate to ‘bury’ until after the Scottish >> 7/7
7/9 Scottish elections in May. The question is whether SNP will again ignore the ‘will of Parliament’? Their track record to date does not speak eloquently of their respect for Parliament or democracy. The Scottish electorate have a right to access this >>> 8/9
8/9 >> to access this information prior to any election. Sturgeon said “Judge me on my record”. The Scottish public would like to, but whilst this SNP administration ignore the sovereignty of Parliament, and attempt to ‘bury’ anything that shows them in a bad light, >>> 9/9
9/9 >> bad light, transparency, accountability, & democracy in Scotland are dead. It is in the public interest that SNP publish the OECD education draft findings now, but more so, that SNP start to respect the sanctity of the Scottish Parliament, & the people of Scotland. <End>
