Manchin is one of the weakest men in America. For whatever Tanden has said, it's nowhere near anything we've seen or heard from dept. heads of the previous admin. She is more competent to direct OMB than almost anyone who has held the position the past two or three decades.
To placate the GOP, Manchin went out of the way to support dozens of Trump nominees who were far more toxic and far less competent for jobs without a single word. Those people lied to congress, violated laws, policies and procedures, ignored subpoenas, and even committed crimes.
None of that even addresses the often false, toxic, and even hate driven publics comments they made on television, social media, or in speeches. Those staff asserted rights and privileges they didn't have and didn't exist. Many lied under oath.
When Trump Administration staff insulted and disrespected members of congress, repeatedly and publicly violated the Hatch Act or lied to congress and the public about critical issues, Manchin was missing in action.
Some were approved with full knowledge of their conflicts of interest and previous malfeasance. Manchin wasn't the only democrat to approve those poor choices for their positions, but he was the most silent and pliant.
But the issue is bigger that whether he failed to go to bat for his president. He may be in the seat now, but he has done nothing but take up space for years. What has he produced? Other than cosigning, to what thing or accomplishment of any substance can he attach his name?
They say a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Not when that bird is origami.

For all who say that we need Manchin for Biden to be successful, I am not convinced that he is even on board for that. He's been Lucy with the football for far too long.
I am sick of holding my breath and waiting for him to come around because he is a saboteur. He can't even claim that he does what he does on behalf of bipartisanship because the republicans have made it clear that they have no intentions to be bipartisan.
His only goal then is to retain his seat. I see no point of a warm body who is likely to fail when you need him most.

So I am pinning my future hopes on the Ohio and PA candidates next year. I am completely done waiting for him to find his inner democrat and spine.
Relying on Joe Manchin is no better that relying on Susan Collins. It is a fools errand.

To those who would be pissed off for calling him out because he's a democrat, go one better. Prove what I've said wrong.

The U.S. national security and intelligence apparatus has said for years that climate change is the single greatest threat to the nation and world. While systems intrusion and hacking by foreign actors could potentially have replicated some of what happened in Texas, it didn't.
Climate change and failure to plan did that, along with incompetence, ineptitude, and sheer greed.

Not only was what happened in Texas the failure of governance and malfeasance, it was a complete failure of imagination, vision, and insight.
While some folks want to call it a "black swan event," the fact is what happened in Texas was not. Not only was it anticipated, it was predicted. The people in charge were told what the problems were, how to fix them and why. They were told what to expect if they didn't.

Erick Erickson and Ben Shapiro apparently can't understand why the media is beating the daylights out of Cruz for going on vacation because there was nothing for him to do during a cataclysmic life-threatening ice storm.

Really?
huffpost.com/entry/ted-cruz…
So:

- Coordinating a federal response,
- Working with the White House to assemble aid and disseminate relief,
- Supporting constituents on the ground,
- Checking in on hospitals and seniors, and
- Calling rich donors

are all too hard for Cruz to do as a US senator?
But you'd better believe that Cruz will be the first one to a microphone to cry and scream when it comes time to appropriate cash for Texas relief. Do you suppose he still remembers his response to Chris Christie in the wake of Super Storm Sandy? Probably not.

Texas republican officials are idiots. But not everyone is republican, and people don't deserve to suffer even if their officials are incompetent imbeciles.

With that in mind, pipe freezing may not be an immediate concern, but it really should be addressed as soon as possible.
Folks in Texas should be put on notice that because they may not often deal with winter pipe freezing, much of the pipe breakage and rupturing will become evident when the thaw begins and the ice begins to melt. Flooding will obviously compound and already bad situation.
Cracks and fissures in the pipes will become exposed when the pressure is relieved and the water again begins to flow. So even though water is hard to come by right now, but if there is any way you can store some in advance, it's highly advisable.

Okay, maybe I am being a little hard on Matt K. Lewis after seeing his appearance on @11thHour. But I believe with everything within me that he deserves it. After all, the people who invaded the Capitol would be just as happy to see me dead as they'd be content to not know...
...I ever existed. A violent, racist, seditious mob invaded the Capitol. Yet some conservatives think it's "looking down" on those people to talk about spiritual problems in America or say anything along the lines of them needing to be reprogramed, or make them feel insulted.
Let's be clear, the people who invaded the Capitol aren't interested in negotiation, compromise, or conciliation. They don't want blacks to vote. They don't want women in positions of leadership. They do want babies in cages. They claimed blue lives matter, then attacked police.

Having spent 12 years plus kindergarten in the Philly school system, I'm a witness to the facts that the majority of the schools ha NO VENTILATION SYSTEMS. Most of the schools were built sometime between the death of Queen Victoria and the beginning of WWI.
The state GOP has historically starved the districts of desperately needed funds for decades. Now the same state and national republicans are squawking about reopening schools. And it all goes directly back to the entire reason behind Brown v. Board of Education in The 1950s.
With Philly being the largest district and largest predominantly black district in the state, the politics and policies have been crystal clear. The denial of funds has been race based. Call it what it is.

I am extremely pleased that @SpeakerPelosi is moving forward with a 9/11-type commission to look into the January 6th insurrection. I hope it's headed by someone with integrity like @russfeingold.
That commission must look at all individuals involved including criminally complicit members of congress. It must also look at all laws, rules, policies, procedures, and practices that enabled and propelled the sedition and insurrection to reality.
Like turning a ship in the harbor, nothing about government happens fast. While sometimes I hate that notion and it drives me crazy. And, everyone in the nation may be in need of quick answers. Nonetheless, government is built that way for a reason.
