This is the most important state election in living memory.

During a once-in-a-century pandemic and global economic uncertainty, who do you trust to guide WA through unprecedented times?

The answer is clear - WA needs this experienced Government.
A Government that makes jobs and health its number one priorities, that is dedicated to fairness, opportunity and creating prosperity across this great state, and that’s never afraid to stand up to Canberra.

A Government that will keep WA strong.
When Bob Hawke was Prime Minister, it was Labor, in Government, making decisions, making Australia a better place for everyone.

Bringing the nation together, and taking it forward.

He set the standard that I try to follow.
In our darkest, most challenging times, Labor Government kept us safe.

During WWII, our Western Australian, wartime PM, John Curtin, steered Australia through its most terrifying challenge.

Curtin said “the nation looked to Labor - and it did not look in vain.”
The last year has brought some of the most difficult challenges we have ever faced.

And as a state, we responded in the only way we know how-

We stuck together, we supported each other, we rose to the challenge as only Western Australians can.
I’ve always believed that we are the greatest state in the best country in the world.

This State has given me everything – opportunity, a career, a place to call home.

An amazing wife and the best kids a dad could ask for.
I just want to give something back.
Our collective challenge required a collective response.

It takes everyone pulling in the same direction for the common good, making sacrifices, pitching in, cooperating to help those they’ve never met - their fellow West Aussies.

The party that understands that is WA Labor.
Leading the state during a crisis is the single most important responsibility of being Premier of WA.

The lives and hopes of so many Western Australians depend on you.

As Premier, you need to have the experience, you need to have the resilience, you have to have the capacity.
You can never give in to pressure from Canberra.

You have to stand up for Western Australians - their health and their jobs.

You always have to keep going - no matter how hard it gets.
My WA Labor Government will always have your back - we’re never afraid to fight for you.
I have led a strong, experienced, unified team. The most stable Government in fifty years.

Experienced, passionate Ministers, with a deep knowledge of their portfolios.

Together, we got the state back on track.
We promised a fresh approach. We delivered it. And now we’re going even further.

I am proud to stand here, look every Western Australian in the eye and tell them we’ve done what we said we’d do.

We repaid the faith and trust that was placed in us in 2017.
I want every Western Australian to have the confidence that they can and will find a fulfilling career here in this state.

That's what my wife and I want for our children – and I know parents all over WA feel the same.
So as we stand here in 2021, having seized the opportunities of 2017.

It's time - for a new plan for jobs.

Today - we are proud to unveil our new WA Jobs Plan.
A real plan to create 125,000 local jobs for Western Australians on top of the 63,000 already created.

It’s a credible, believable, deliverable plan.
We will establish the WA Jobs Taskforce.

Chaired by me, it will oversee the delivery of the WA Jobs Plan.

The taskforce will bring employers, unions and Government around the table to identify local job creation opportunities in both new and existing industries.
As you know, more than 26 years ago, it was the Liberal Party that shut the Midland Railway Workshops, and gutted our local manufacturing industry.
But it’s our WA Labor Government that's brought rail car manufacturing back to WA.

Where it belongs.

Today I want to tell you about our next step in manufacturing.
This state has a fleet of 32,000 iron ore wagons, that gets our iron ore to port on rail.

It is estimated that those ore wagons require around 300,000 replacement components every year.

I want Western Australia to be manufacturing those components.
So today I am pleased to announce a re-elected Labor Government will work with the resources sector and our local manufacturing industry to create an ongoing pipeline of manufacturing work of those critical iron ore rail wagon components.
And to help make it a reality, we will establish a $15 million Local Manufacturing Investment Fund to help WA manufacturers re-tool their workshops with world class technology so they can fabricate those components right here.
This is a policy that sets up our local manufacturing industry for the long term and create thousands of quality manufacturing jobs.

It’s time Western Australia seized this opportunity.

Under WA Labor - we are building trains here.
We all know the Liberals will sell Western Power if they get the chance.

Just the other day, their leader said it’s in their DNA to sell the grid into private ownership.

Only WA Labor will keep our essential assets where they belong: in public hands, supporting new WA Jobs.
We’ve already delivered so much for TAFE and training.

We’ve kept training affordable, and Western Australians are flocking back.

This year alone, we’ve seen a 43 per cent increase in applications to TAFE.

But we’re going to go further.
Today, I am proud to announce that, if re-elected, we will fund an additional 300 apprentices and trainees positions in Group Training Schemes - so those apprentices can get their start on Government projects.
That is just the start of our bold plan for new WA jobs.

And if re-elected, we will immediately get to work to deliver that plan.
As I said, this is the most important state election in living memory.

This is an election about who will fight for the health and livelihoods of Western Australians

It’s about who people trust to lead them through these unprecedented times and into the better ones to come.
WA must stay the course - we cannot risk a change of approach now.

In this environment, my Government is the only safe, secure option.

The people of WA have seen my Labor Government fight tooth and nail for their jobs, and the health and lives of their loved ones.
The public have felt a renewed confidence in Government.

Western Australians looked to Labor, and they did not look in vain.
So my message to you - if you’re thinking about voting for me and WA Labor this election, for the very first time:

You should feel confident in that decision.
My promise to you - and every single Western Australian is simple - I will lead a sensible, responsible, experienced Government

That will keep our promises, and properly manage the finances.

And we will always keep WA strong.
So to every Western Australian, watching at home today:

If you want a Government that makes WA Jobs and health its number one priority,

That has a plan to reduce East Coast FIFO, that will ensure WA jobs go to Western Australians first,
That makes training affordable so that everyone can access opportunity.

A Government that will build METRONET, and manufacture the trains locally,
That will invest in better hospitals and better healthcare,

That will build the new Women’s and Babies Hospital,

That supports our regional communities.
If you believe that WA deserves an experienced Government, dedicated to fairness, opportunity and creating prosperity all across this great state.

That’s never afraid to stand up to Canberra.
If you want to keep WA strong, the best and only way to do that this election - is to re-elect this WA Labor Government.

We’ve just announced a huge boost that will help thousands of Western Australians access TAFE and training courses with massive cuts to fees and a range of short courses that will be completely free.
As the economy recovers, skilled workers will be in high demand, which means that training will be vital to develop a skilled workforce.

Our new $57m package to support TAFE and training with make sure West Aussies can access the training they need to access jobs in key areas.
Last year we slashed fees on 34 WA TAFE courses with our Lower Fees, Local Skills initiative. Today we’re expanding that to cover another 39 courses - including things like agriculture, construction, trades, nursing, early childhood education, community services and more.

Our State has seen remarkable results in the fight against COVID-19 - and while that fight will continue for some time yet, those results mean we can now cautiously adjust some of the most extreme of those restrictions.
As of tomorrow, 27 April, based on expert health advice, the two person limit on non-work indoor and outdoor gatherings will be adjusted, with the limit rising to 10 people.
Additionally, the list of acceptable activities to do away from home has been expanded slightly. Everyone should continue to practise appropriate social distancing and stay home except for:
• Shopping for what you need, such as food or other necessary supplies

We’ve just announced the $145 million Armadale Road dual carriageway project is set to open on Friday.

It was my pleasure to also announce the new four-lane bridge over Nicholson Road will be named in honour of a truly great Western Australian.
That person is Hugo Throssell VC.

I want to tell you a little bit of his story.
Born in 1884, to George and Annie Throssell, the son of a former Premier was part of a special generation.

A generation that bore heartache and pain of financial depression and world wars.
