I haven't seen the data, but I'm willing to bet that a fair percentage of the flu deaths during 2020-21 were shortly after the previous tracking year, which ended April 4, 2020.
There were some flu hospitalizations this past winter, so not completely eliminated.
One interesting fact of the flu is that it travels each year from Northern to Southern Hemisphere, and then back again, evolving as it spreads & travels. It's unlikely it'll ever be eliminated, but it's nice to have a reprieve.
