1. You don't need to boil water for minutes to sterilize. at 170 °F all biological acivity ends. Bring it to a boil and that's it, it is done. Don't waste fuel boiling it longer. 1/ offgridweb.com/preparation/su…
2. Use household bleach. What you want is to have between 0.2-0.6 ppm (parts per million) of free chlorine left after 30 minutes contact time. How can you tell. If you can smell bleach after 30 minutes you are good. 2/ willowhavenoutdoor.com/general-surviv…
I start with 1 or 2 drops per Liter/quart. If after 30 min you can smell the bleach -- the water is good to drink. If you can't, add more, wait another 30 and retest. Rinse and repeat as nesseccary. 3/
You can also use ultraviolent radition (sunlight). Fill clear plastic water bottles, shake to airete, and place in sun for more than 6 hours. Putting it on alumuium for relfecting the sunlight is even better. 4/ sodis.ch/methode/index_…
I am happy to answer any and all questions on this. But, the biggest factor for survival is "Drink the Water" even if you can't treat it, it will take several days for gastrointestinal bugs to get going. When treatment is availavble and you are out of immediate danger. 5/
Famous quote from wilderness medicine doctor. "We have medications to treat cryptosporidia but we can't treat dead."
