Since @StoneLarry is columnizing on this situation as I type this and I'm waiting to record a podcast, I offer you this question:

When has the Mariners' organization made the proper and logical decision in the proper and logical timeframe?

Unfortunately, I wasn't surprised by any of Mather's comments. He's always had minimal filter when it comes to his thoughts and opinions, even in interview situations.

I am surprised that people who have ascended to such professional levels can be unaware that everything is recorded, particularly zoom calls where there is red light and the word "recording"

From a cold and ruthless standpoint of businessman and CEO of a baseball team, Mather's comments about individual players, contracts, free agents, the upcoming CBA and more are probably shared by most people in his position. He just attached a name and face to that side.

If you are a player in the org, particularly one that he mentioned, how do you take what he says seriously or genuinely?

If you are other owners, you can't be pleased. And I'm sure Rob Manfred stopped looking at physics of deadening baseballs to call John Stanton. If you are the MLBPA, you are definitely making calls as well.

Also if an employee of the Mariners below Mather made such assertions or comments in a public forum, he would immediately fire them without pretense or regret. He is a ruthless businessman in that way and how he rose to the level of CEO because "he's an earner"

Also, I've covered this org since 2007. I've met some great people along the way, many of whom I consider to be close friends. They represent the organization properly despite being vastly underpaid. They ache for success and agonize with the failures.

They deserve better.
