While on the topic of The Man of the Hole and other indigenous groups who have been decimated by outside contact...here are the Akuntsu people. They are the last survivors of a once largish ethnic group once again massacred by evil ranchers and loggers
Since this photo was taken, the older woman in the front center and the older man in the back right have died. The man was actually the chief and shaman of the group, he was the last person to know their healing songs and rituals and was described as a wonderful fun person
His name was Konibu. He leaves behind his wife Aramira and his daughter Inuteia. The woman that passed was called Ururú, and she was the oldest survivor, a grandma. The 4 remaining people of the Akuntsu now live with 2 other tribes, the Tuparí and the Kanôe, and have made contact
The Kanôe and the Akuntsu both are related to each other culturally but their languages are different. The Akuntsu people are linguistically related to the Tuparí people and the Kanôe are language isolates. The last survivors are 3 ladies and 1 man.
These people also come from around the same area as The Man of the Hole... from Rôndonia near the border with Peru and Bolivia. It seems like this area was particularly hard hit by settlers and many of the people have faced devastating losses.
Konibú and Ururú were brother and sister. It’s forbidden for the Akuntsu to marry or have children outside of their tribe so that’s the end of their story
There were thousands of them in the 1980’s and they were systemically killed in a major genocidal campaign to steal their territory

pop culture always talks about cataclysmic apocalypse events that destroy the entire earth, but there’s at least one man who is living through his own apocalypse. His entire tribe was massacred in 1995 and he’s been the sole survivor ever since(FUNAI watches & protects him)
About 30 sq mi around him are considered his territory, and FUNAI has designated this land as a reservation for this man alone. Nobody knows his name, nobody...not even neighboring tribes...speak his language. He’s been alone for 25 years. He’s in his 50’s now they think
His territory is surrounded by deforestation. All the land around him is owned by cattle ranchers and plantation owners. They all want his land so they’ve been trying to kill him ever for years. The last time he nearly died was in 2009.
I agree with everything except the 90% of the American population dying part. That would happen but not directly from electricity loss it would be bc Americans don’t have a communal mindset, mostly don’t know about sustainability and survival skills, and are very individualistic
If the power grid went out in any part of the Pacific islands besides maybe Hawai’i and Aotearoa, the people would be fine. Seems like I’m stating the obvious bc of course less developed areas would be more equipped to handle power outages but it’s more than that
There’s a fundamental cultural issue in the US that doesn’t seem to exist anywhere else. Americans are stubborn, callous, individualistic assholes most of the time and that’s why people would kill each other before they would make sacrifices for the greater good
