Thread on free/inexpensive art resources to share. I will slowly be adding more throughout the day. they range from excellent sites for reference and studies to free online painting/art tutorials to free programs. links below. feel free to add anything you know as well!
Bodies in motion- bodiesinmotion.photo
Amazing website for movement, expressions, and dynamic poses!
Line of Action - line-of-action.com
another site for studies. offers figure drawing, hands, expressions, and animals
referenceangle.com - amazing resource for finding reference images of a particular angle of the face you're trying to draw. easy to use!
x6ud.github.io/#/ - Also had NO idea about this really amazing resource for animal reference at difference angles as well!
earthsworld.com - Kind of an amazing resource of images for unique character design inspiration.
alexhays.com/loomis/ - PDFs for loomis' books. please be aware that despite some useful information, these books are old and occasionally show racist caricatures
zvork.fr/vls/ - someone just linked this virtual lighting studio that I had no idea even existed. a way to toy with your own lighting options and colors. I find this really incredible.
shotdeck.com/welcome/home this website is a HUGE personal favorite for film studies. a huge library of stills from movies with the option to search by time period, color, interior/exterior, etc. so many options. I believe you may need to be approved to use it, but its still great!
ctrlpaint.com entire free resource that has a ton of amazing videos on digital painting
great youtube channel also dedicated to teaching digital painting! tons and tons of free videos!
I will try to add more later today! Please also look through the comments on this thread! There’s some great stuff
angelicadass.com/photography/hu… another one real quick. This project by Angelica Dass is not only beautiful, but is a good reference for skin tones in general.
this blog post that breaks down stills from the incredibles to discuss how they are composed is so easy to digest and an amazing help for considering composition. Helpful for art/storyboards/comics/ etc!
please check this out too! @goylepower was kind enough to create an entire spreadsheet of resources! more organized and neatly laid out than this twitter thread -
