I'm looking through old issues of Play Meter for video research (preserved online by @GamingAlexandri, h/t) and it's so weird. It's a magazine for the ENTIRE coin-op industry, so it's like a page of arcade games, sure, then pinball, ok, jukeboxes, all right, then PAYPHONES.
Seriously.
Ya'll ever heard of Capcom Cathy?
Capcom Cathy getting thrown-over for THE SPEED RUMBLER was so traumatic, she can't stop talking about it.
Ever see those old Konami flyers and wonder "geez, did they just grab whoever was in the office to pose in these publicity photos?"
The answer is yes.
I can only assume "Night Stocker" is a game in which the player takes the role of graveyard shift workers in the supermarket.
Not every issue of this magazine is scanned, so we missed a thrilling installment in Capcom Cathy's love life, but she's apparently going to settle for marrying a dickhead who'd rather play the fucking Speed Rumbler than get naked with her. Capcom Cathy deserved better.
(I assume "SST Starship" was an abandoned name for Side Arms? No other game fits, unless it was just a game that was never released period.)
Petition to rename the suicide dive/tope suicida to "The Plunger." Do it, @ShutUpExcalibur! (From a RePlay ad in 1985 for Mat Mania.)
This is close to what I was looking through these old mags for, and boy, it doesn't disappoint. I've never seen this ad/flyer for Gradius (a.k.a. Nemesis), but boy-howdy, it's something.
